Eastwood Schools fill staffing needs by hiring six teachers

PEMBERVILLE – At its May 23 school board meeting, Eastwood hired six people to finalize its
staffing needs for 2013-14."We have a strong mix of veteran classroom teachers and a couple of students
fresh out of college," said Superintendent Brent Welker in his weekly e-mail to district
residents.Those hired include: Libby Gruber, Luckey kindergarten; Adam Hoffman, Luckey phys-ed teacher;
Jennifer Pease, Luckey first grade; Leslie Oestreich, Pemberville third grade; Tami Howard, eighth and ninth
grade English; and Lindsay Ross, middle school and high school health.All were given one-year
contracts.Kevin Leady, sixth grade math and eighth grade science; Jerry Swartz, vocational agriculture; DJ
Michel, high school phys-ed, were all hired in April.Shay Nafzinger, Pemberville kindergarten, was hired in
MarchAlso at the meeting, the board:• recognized a number of students selected for numerous honors bands,
including Jae-Eun Schermerhorn, Hannah Sponaugle, Rebecca Lang, Lydia Tressel, Melissa Bolton, Ashlee
Marchal, Austin Smith, Regina Reidling, Maddison Fix, Hannah Starr and Matt White; and for honors choir,
including Jordan Derr, Regan McAnally, Jessica Rice and Annika Barrow.• recognized food service supervisors
at all four buildings for earning the Clean Plate Award from the Wood County Health District.• honored
Jennifer Lang for being chosen as the May Student of the Month at the high school.• thanked Abby McCoy for
her years volunteering as PTO treasurer and fundraising chairperson at Pemberville Elementary.• approved
donations of $981.50 from Eastwood Band Boosters for band hats; $100 from Dobson’s Lawnmower Service, $360
from North Branch Nursery, and $180 from Dr. Ted Bowlus, all for sixth-grade camp scholarships; and $200
from Seifert Builders fro the Eastwood relays.
