Budd Jaffee, age 88, of Temperance, MI died surrounded by his family and friends in a
beautiful tribute to his life on Wednesday, May 22, in Ebeid Hospice.He was born in Toledo on January
12, 1925 to Abraham and Clara Jaffee. Growing up on 13th Street, he attended Sherman School where he met
lifetime friend of 83 years, Dr. Alvin Zohn.Budd graduated from Scott High School, and served in the
Pacific Theatre during WWII as part of the 43rd Battalion of the Navy Seabees. During the war, Budd used
his talents as a master magician to entertain. In addition he became quite a photographer. After the
war, he photographed patrons and the talented artists who came to Toledo to perform at Kin Wa Low’s.Budd
was a Certified Master Watchmaker, and graduated from the Kansas City School of Watchmaking.While living
in Kansas City, Budd’s mode of transportation was by Harley Davidson motorcycle. In the late 1940s Budd
took flying lessons at the old Franklin Airport in West Toledo, and later earned his private pilot
"ticket" in the 1970s.On May 23, 1950 he met the love of his life, Edythe (Frank) and they
married on November 12, 1950 in the first marriage solemnized at Congregation B’nai Jacob.In November
1956, he founded Budd Jewelers which was located on Summit Street in Point Place for over 50 years. Budd
was a leader in the Point Place Optimist Club, and a lifetime member of the Point Place Business
Association. He repaired over 20,000 watches during his career. In 2006, with his son Len, they moved
the business to Lambertville, MI so that it would be closer to home. Although Budd turned over the
business reins to son, Len, and grandson, Adam, he still came into work every Wednesday to stay sharp in
his watchmaking craft, even when arthritis and Parkinson’s disease made this difficult.

Budd gave of
himself to others throughout his life. After the war, Budd was Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 11. Then
later in the 1950s, Budd and Al Zohn were co-scoutmasters for a Boy Scout Troop in Point Place. During
the 1960s Budd was Cubmaster of Pack 41. Many of the boys at Grove Patterson School participated in the
Pinewood Derbies, Rocket Derbies and learned life skills under Budd’s leadership. In the 1970s Budd
again became scoutmaster of Troop 11 and led 30 scouts on an excursion by bus to the 1973 National Scout
Jamboree in Idaho. Even with business and family responsibilities, Budd never missed an annual canoe
trip.Budd had varied skills and passed these on to his children. In addition to magic, flying, and
photography, he was quite a baker. Budd’s cinnamon rolls and bagels were always a treat. He loved
innovation and technology – there wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix. Budd built the first color television
in the area in the 1960s and was an early adopter of CB radio. His lifetime thirst for learning was
witnessed by the members of the Toledo Area Society of Health-System Pharmacists when he often attended
continuing education programs with Edythe.Budd imparted the travel bug to his family; he explored most
of North America by car with his family, and traveled the world with his wife.His home was always open
to friends, extended family and neighbors. There were often 10 or more around the dinner table. On
holidays, the numbers swelled to over 40. While his children were growing up, the Jaffee household was
always a place of refuge for friends of his children and for college friends who missed a home cooked
meal. He is affectionately known as "Uncle Budd."He is survived by his wife of 62 years,
Edythe; children, Alan (Laura), Debbie (Pat) Saine, Tom (Sara), Leonard (Cathy), and Sandy (Johnathan)
Stein, grandchildren, Julianne (Kevin) Meredith, Beth Saine, Brian Jaffee, Sam Jaffee, Samantha Stein,
Nicole Stein, Devin (Ryan) Dildine, Adam Wojnarowski, three great-grandchildren, and many nephews and
nieces.Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Beth Shalom Cemetery in Oregon, Ohio.
Friends are invited to visit the family at Budd and Edythe’s home in Temperance, MI immediately
following the service and through Tuesday, May 28.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made
