Women’s Club ends year with May breakfast

Members of the Women’s Club of Bowling Green celebrated the end of the club
year at their annual spring breakfast May 4.Officers and directors were installed for the 2013-2015 term by
Mary Mackzum, Northwest District president.Officers installed were Evelyn Bachman, president; Sue DiBiasio,
first vice president; Mary Boone and Deb LeGalley, co-second vice presidents/program chairmen; Carole
Solether, secretary, and Joan Gordon, treasurer.Members of the Board will be Mary Mackzum, arts chairman;
Norma Stickler, conservation; Jessica Hover and Kathy East, education; Sharon Franklin and Linda Hamilton,
home life; Marilyn Pahl and Camille Harris, international outreach; Melanie Stretchbery, public issues;
Roberta Lane, social; Jo Vernon, inspiration.Vicki Harris, sunshine; Donna Schmidt, music; Becky Bhaer and
Sharon Franklin, membership; Norma Stickler, program book; Linda Kuhn, newsletter/web site; Kuhn and Lynette
Rosebrook, Garden Group; Kay Heffernan, Literature Group; Rosebrook, historian; Barbara Applebaum, domestic
violence awareness/prevention; Mona Jhuremalani, publicity; Earlene Kilpatrick (chairman), and
Stickler.President Norma Stickler spoke of the accomplishments of the club and members during the past year.
She cited the presentation of two scholarships, writing contest for school students, assistance for a number
of community organizations, including donations for the Food Pantry, Wood County Library, the Cocoon
Shelter, greeting cards for nursing home residents, and pop can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House.Members
also volunteered at the Black Swamp Arts Festival, the Art Walk, and the Chili Cook-Off during Winterfest.
Several fund-raising events were held, including the annual Holiday Boutique and Luncheon, a yard sale, and
water sale at the downtown car show.She also noted that much time and effort was spent on the sale of the
clubhouse.Stickler presented 25-year pins to Elizabeth Uhlman and Shirley Goldman, who joined the club in
1988.Kuhn, International Outreach chairman, announced that $120 will be sent to Heifer International for the
purchase of a sheep. A drawing for a tote bag was won by Edie Olds. Participants in the drawing were members
who had contributed to the Heifer project during the year.The club’s Elma Zelman Music Scholarship was
presented to Patty Kramer, a Bowling Green State University graduate student. She presented several vocal
selections, accompanied by Ana Yoder, also a BGSU student. The scholarship was presented by Donna Schmidt,
club music chairman.DiBiasio gave the inspirational message, based on passages from the book, "The
World According to Mister Rogers."Members of the social committee were Lois Bright, Rosebrook, and
Barbara Klopfenstein.
