WESTON –One family is receiving assistance from the Red Cross following a fire that destroyed
one mobile home and heavily damaged another at Lawndale Mobile Plaza early this morning.Chief Randy
Tolles of the Weston Fire Department said that the department received the call at approximately 1:15
a.m. The initial call was for a shed on fire, which was spreading to a mobile home. The plaza is located
at 13590 Center St.The mobile homes were located adjacent to each other, said Tolles. The shed near an
unoccupied mobile home had caught fire and spread, he said. The flames then spread to the second mobile
home, which had five occupants. A 14-year-old boy living in that home notified the other occupants of
the blaze. All escaped unharmed.“We had it under control in about 20 to 25 minutes.”While an estimate of
financial loss was not available this morning, Tolles indicated that the first home was “a total loss,
and the other is probably going to end up being a total loss also. Pretty heavy damage to the
inside.”Firefighters returned to service by 6 a.m.A cause for the fire was not known at press time,
though Tolles said that firefighters planned to return to the scene today for further investigation.
Nothing suspicious was suspected this morning.Weston received mutual aid from the Milton Township Fire
Department.
