To the Editor: BG public schools make community great

0

Bowling Green is my home and a place with true opportunity. Yes this city is home to BGSU and
welcomes thousands of young, aspiring minds with the promise of opportunity. But the character of this town
goes far beyond the confines of campus. Bowling Green is a community of engagement and activism. Over the
years, I’ve learned more each day about the fabric of this community and I often find myself wondering what
makes Bowling Green so great. What makes a great community great? The answer: BG Public Schools. It’s simple.
If you want a great community, you must invest in great public schools. Unfortunately, Gov. Kasich has tied
the hands of school districts across the state and BG Schools face financial uncertainty. Education is
essential. I am proud to say I attended a great public school from kindergarten until graduation day. I am
who I am today because of the passion, energy, and dedication of every teacher, administrator, custodial
workers, cafeteria workers, and so many others that keep our schools going year after year.A great public
school is about opportunity. Those teachers provide opportunities to learn mathematics, science, writing,
reading, technological skills, art, music, etc.Great schools provide the opportunity to develop a work ethic
and leadership skills through athletics.Quite simply, great public schools are also great communities, which
is precisely why the greater Bowling Green community will be stronger if the BG Schools levy passes next
week. I urge you, as a proud member of this community, to vote YES for BG Schools on May 7th!Michael K.
