American Indians will meet to honor Chief Pontiac

LINCOLN PARK, Mich. (AP) — American Indians arecoming to Lincoln Park this week for events
marking the gathering oftribes 250 years ago led by Chief Pontiac.The Detroit Free Pressreports (
http://on.freep.com/12BRj0x ) that the events culminate with apowwow Saturday and Sunday. A new Michigan
historical marker will bededicated at 5 p.m. Saturday.The events commemorate ChiefPontiac’s council,
which was called on April 27, 1763, to challenge toEuropeans seizing tribal land. Indians seized nine
forts, but eventuallywere overtaken by Europeans and colonial Americans.The LincolnPark Historical
Society and Museum, American Indian Movement of Michiganand others are holding the free events, which
also include a car showof classic Pontiacs at 5 p.m. Thursday and a concert bysinger-songwriter Bill
