Historic Cincinnati-area home to be demolished

CINCINNATI (AP) — The historic Cincinnati-area home of theinventor of Ivory soap is expected
to be demolished as early as Mondaymorning after a four-year battle to save it.The CincinnatiEnquirer
reports (http://cin.ci/10hwB2R) that the demolition of theGamble house in Westwood is imminent and at
the behest of its owners.JamesN. Gamble, the son of one the founders of Procter & Gamble,
livedin the 13-room Victorian mansion from 1875 until his 1932 death. Duringthat time, he invented Ivory
soap and turned his father’s company intoan international powerhouse.Preservationists and neighbors
havebeen fighting the demolition with protests, lawsuits, board hearings andother means since March
2009.The home’s owner, the GreenacresFoundation, applied for a permit to demolish the house about a
