Nature Conservancy official at BGSU Thursday

Dr. David Cleary, director of agriculture at The Nature Conservancy, will be the keynote
speaker Thursday for Bowling Green State University’s fourth annual Latin America and Latino/a Studies
Conference.Cleary earned his doctorate from Oxford University in anthropology. At the Nature
Conservancy, based in Arlington, Va., he oversees conservation strategies for Latin America and global
efforts to achieve eco-sustainable food security.Cleary’s efforts have also focused on the protection of
indigenous lands and minimizing the impact of agricultural expansion in Latin America.His keynote talk,
"Latin America and Globalization: What Are the Environmental Implications?" will take place
from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union Theater (Room 206).The Latin American and
Latino/a Studies Faculty Cluster at BGSU’s Institute for the Study of Culture and Society hosts the
annual conference,The all-day academic forum is intended to present research and discuss ideas among
members of the BGSU community with interests in Latin America and Latino/a Studies.The research and
creativity of 25 graduate and undergraduate students will be showcased in six panels from 8 a.m. to 5:15
p.m. in 201 Union.The conference and Cleary’s keynote address are free and open to the public.
