ROSSFORD – A Perrysburg principal is one
of four finalists for the top job in the Rossford School District.The board of education has held a
series of executive sessions to discuss the search. From the 24 resumes submitted, the board has
narrowed its field to four.The candidates are:• Daniel Creps, Perrysburg, principal of Woodland
Elementary.• James E. Gault, Maumee, Toledo Public Schools chief academic officer, chief of staff.•
Joseph P. Taylor, Maumee, director of special education and student services at Maumee City Schools.•
Deborah Piotrowski, Xenia, superintendent of Xenia Community City Schools.The board’s schedule called
for it to name a superintendent this month, with the new school chief taking office in summer.Before
coming to Perrysburg, Creps worked in the Sylvania schools in various capacities starting as an upper
elementary grade teacher in 1994. He went on to teach at Timberstone Junior High, direct the high school
summer program and serve as assistant principal for Arbor Hills Junior High and principal at Sylvania
Elementary.He received his bachelor’s degree from Wittenberg University in 1988 and, like the other
three candidates, he has a master of education from the University of Toledo.Gault has spent his entire
career in Toledo starting as a teacher at Mount Vernon Elementary in 1998, where he received
gubernatorial recognition for boosting state test scores by 400 percent.He also served as principal of
Riverside Elementary and then DeVeaux Junior High. He received his bachelor’s degree from University of
Toledo in 1998.Taylor has spent much of his career in special education, starting in Genoa is 1995. From
1997 to 2001 he was a transitional program instructor at Penta Career Center. He’s also worked in Toledo
Public and Benton-Carroll-Salem, before coming to Maumee in 2006 as principal of Fairfield Elementary.
He received his bachelor’s degree in 1995 from UT.Piotrowski has been superintendent in Xenia since July
2010. Previously from 2005 to 2010, she was superintendent at the Millcreek West Unity School District.
She started her career in education as an elementary teacher with Toledo Public after returning to the
University of Toledo to get a bachelor’s degree in education in 1993.Previously she had worked for 15
years in various capacities with Consolidated Rail Corporation.Bill McFarland has been serving as
interim since August 2011, taking over when Susan Lang left to become superintendent of Wyoming City
Schools.The Board of Education meets in special session Monday at 4 p.m. and Feb. 16 at noon.
