CCHA suspends Michigan’s Treais (01-03-13)

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Michigan will be without its leading scorer for Tuesday’s home game
against Bowling Green.Senior forward A.J. Treais was suspended one game by the Central Collegiate Hockey
Association, the league said Wednesday.The suspension was the result of Treais receiving a major and
game-misconduct penalties for contact to the head during Saturday’s game against Michigan State.Treais
is tied for third in the CCHA in scoring with 18 points. He has 10 goals and eight assists in 19
games.Michigan also could face BG without standout defenseman Jacob Trouba, who is playing for the
United States in the World Junior Championships.The U.S. plays in the gold medal game Saturday. The
tournament is being played in Russia.Trouba was selected ninth overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2012
NHL Draft.Treais was one of two players suspended by the league Wednesday.Western Michigan sophomore
defenseman Matt Stewart was suspended by the CCHA for receiving checking from behind and
game-disqualification penalties against Michigan Tech Saturday.Stewart will miss this weekend’s series
against Bemidji State. He’ll sit out one game for the automatic one-game NCAA suspension for receiving a
game-disqualification penalty and one game for the CCHA’s supplemental discipline.
