BG bands present concerts

Next week, the band program of Bowling Green Schools will present a pair of holiday concerts, both
scheduled in the Performing Arts Center. The optional dinner will be hosted by the BGHS Band Boosters
and will take place in the BGHS cafeteria.
On Tuesday, the sixth- and seventh-grade bands will perform, both under the direction of Bruce Corrigan.
The sixth-grade band performance will include a variety of selections including "This Old Man Goes
Marching," "Detective Horn" (based on a student composition by Nate Horn), "Blue
Note Rock," and holiday sampler (to be conducted by a student).
The sixth-grade performance will include creative efforts by several of the students. During this
semester, the students wrote melodies, voted on their class favorites, and then wrote lyrics to the
melodies. The class selected Kate Bozzo, Gus Eschedor, and Horn as the winning composers.
The seventh-grade band will performing four selections including "Kitty Hawk March,"
"Clarinet Christmas," "At the Feast of Stephen," and the exciting "Santa’s
Rockin Holiday Mix." 
The 7 p.m. concert will conclude with guest performers, the BGHS Jazz Band. Led by Karen Smith, this
select group of high school musicians will present big band selections and holiday favorites.
On Thursday, the eighth-grade band, along with the concert and symphonic bands of BGHS, will perform.
Highlights will include "All Is Calm," featuring eighth-grade pianist Megan Eddington,
"and Ho! HO! HO!" a lively medley of seasonal favorites.
"A Christmas Montage," "Go Tell It On The Mountain" and "Mondo Glissando,"
a trombone feature, represent the programs selections from the concert band.
For the first time in its thirty year history, the concert is being led by Corrigan.
Concluding Thursday’s program will the BGHS Symphonic Band performing a variety of holiday music in
original settings. "Adeste Fidelis" and "Ave Maria" are the opening selections,
followed by a first-ever collaboration for the music department.
Director of Bands Karen Smith and Choral Director Adam Landry will combine forces in a new arrangement of
the traditional hymn tune "It Is Well." This arrangement was commissioned by the music
department of Defiance High School for a departed colleague; the BGHS performance will be one of the
first public performances since its premiere.
Closing the program will be a sing-along of holiday favorites for band, choir and audience.
Both concerts are free and open to the public; the doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with both concerts
starting at 7 p.m.
Granite City restaurant, located at Fallen Timbers Mall, is partnering with the BGHS Band Boosters for a
fund raiser to benefit the band’s performances in Washington D.C., next April. Order forms for dinner
tickets are available in the high school band room, in the high school main office and on-line at
www.bobcatbands.org. Dinners are $9, discounted to $7 for senior citizens and children. Dinners need to
be pre-ordered and will be served in the high school cafeteria from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday. More dinner
