Ohio’s elections chief appoints two to county board

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio’s elections chief has appointed
replacements for two Democratic county elections officials fired in a
dispute over extended voting hours.
Republican Secretary of State
Jon Husted (HYOO’-sted) named former Dayton Mayor Rhine McLin and
attorney John Doll on Tuesday to serve on the Montgomery County
Elections Board.
County Democrats nominated McLin and Doll on
Monday to complete the terms of former members Dennis Lieberman and
Thomas Ritchie Sr.
A hearing has been set next week in a federal
lawsuit Lieberman and Ritchie have filed against Husted. It alleges he
unjustly fired them after they voted to continue to allow early voting
on weekends.
Husted directed county election boards to have no early in-person voting hours on weekends.
Husted’s spokesman says Lieberman and Ritchie were fired for breaking election law.
