Boy Scouts to honor four from county

SYLVANIA – Four Wood County men will be honored Thursday for their dedication to scouting.
David Wilson, Bowling Green, will be presented with the Gregory A. Hendel Lifetime Volunteer Award; James
Wilson, Perrysburg, will be a recipient of a Silver Beaver award; and Donald Snyder, Bowling Green, and
Russell Hathaway, Cygnet, will each be honored with a District Award of Merit.
The awards will be bestowed by the Erie Shores Council of the Boy Scouts of America, which is celebrating
the 100th year of scouting in Northwest Ohio.
The men will be honored at the Annual Scouter Recognitiion Dinner at Camp Miakonda.
David Wilson has been involved in scouting since joining Pack 338 as a Cub Scout where he earned his
Arrow of Light Award. He then crossed over into Troop 422, sponsored by Conneaut Elementary School,
where he earned his Eagle Award and the God and Country Award.
He has served as an Assistant Webelos Leader and Assistant Scoutmaster and is a member of the Wood
District Committee and served on the District Nominating Committee, the Friends of Scouting Committee
and was District Chairman for three years. Wilson is the Council Chairman for the Activities and Civic
Service Committee and on the Executive Board where his committee oversees and organizes Cub and Scout
activities and community service projects.
He has served on staff of almost every district event including the Cub Lock In, Pinewood Derby, Camporee
and the Wood District Soaring Eagle Run Marathon each fall. He is also a Merit Badge Counselor and is
Wood Badge trained. He received the District Award of Merit in 2008.
Wilson is a member of First United Methodist Church in Bowling Green; a member of the Fraternal Order of
the Elks 1555, and is a board member and board president of the Ashbury Hills Association. He has been a
volunteer at numerous community activities and events.
He is president of S2F Corp, a construction design and management company based in Bowling Green.
James Wilson, an Eagle Scout from Lexington, Ky., was a Cub Leader for Pack 209 in Swan Creek District.
He was also an Assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster for Troop 198 chartered to the First United
Methodist Church. He currently serves as the District Chairman for the Swan Creek District and as such
has a seat on the Council Executive Board. He served as an Assistant Scoutmaster in 2010 for the
National Jamboree Council Contingent. He is a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow Lodge.
Wilson has taught as an adjunct professor at Ohio State University and was a guest lecturer at both
Illinois State University and at Bowling Green State University. He is a past President for the
University of Kentucky Alumni Association. Wilson currently is a Chief Estimator and Senior Project
Manager for E. S. Wagner Company where he has been employed for the past 13 years in the field of heavy
highway road construction.
He is a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Perrysburg. He also has been a soccer coach, and a
basketball coach for the Perrysburg Junior Jackets.
Snyder, an employee of Toledo Refining Company, is a committee chair for Troop 444 at Crim Elementary,
and is also a member of the Wood District Committee. The assistant scoutmaster of Troop 422, he is also
the founder of the Soaring Eagle Marathon Run, held each Labor Day weekend out of Bowling Green, and is
racing director.
He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Bowling Green.
Hathaway, an employee of D. S. Brown Co., North Baltimore, also farms with his brother, and is a
scoutmaster for Troop 337, chartered to the Bloomdale Knights of Pythias Lodge 278. He has led the troop
for four years.
Hathaway also is a member of the Wood District Committee, serving on the camping committee, and was
previously Assistant Scoutmaster. He was awarded the Distinguished Commissioner Service Award in 2011,
and has also received the Scoutmasters Key, Scouter Training Award, and District Award of Merit.
He is a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Fostoria.
