The 28th annual Wood County Heritage Days will feature two days of hands-on history,
an old-fashioned hog roast and a barn dance this weekend.
The events will be held at the Wood County Historical Center and Museum, 13660 County
Home Road in Bowling Green.
The hog roast, catered by Terry Kimmel, is from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, just outside
a former hog barn. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children. Tickets are
limited, and may be picked up in advance by calling (419) 352-0967. Combo
packages for the hog roast and barn dance are also available for $20 per adult
or $40 per couple.
Local bluegrass band Acoustic Penguin will perform from 5 to 7 p.m., pausing around 6
for a pie-eating contest open to the public.
Following the hog roast is a barn dance from 7 to 10:30 p.m. in the pole barn.
Beginner and advanced dancers are welcome. There will be square, round, and line
dances called by Doug Michaelis. Refreshments will be available.
Tickets for the barn dance are $10/adult, $18/couple, and children age 12 and under
free. Tickets can be purchased in advance or the day of the event.
The historical society will also sell Belleville’s pork-a-lean sandwiches and other
refreshments all weekend during the Wood County Heritage Days and Power of
Yesteryear Tractor Show, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. These events
are free and offer hands-on demonstrations including corn shelling and milling,
cross-cut saw, candle dipping, and butter churning.
For a complete list of activities, visit woodcountyhistory.org or call the museum at

On Sunday at 11 a.m., the Heritage Days tradition continues with the annual barbecue
fundraiser of Harlan’s chicken or pork, plus two sides, roll/butter, homemade
pie, and beverage for $10, all served up by Wood County public officials.
Following the barbecue is the annual Spirit of Wood County Awards at 2 p.m., where
the county commissioners honor distinguished citizens. The commissioners have
been honoring outstanding citizens since 1987.
