Reiser’s
goal all season has been to qualify for state after she just missed last season
in Division III where she finished fifth in the regional.
“I’m relieved it’s over, but very happy,” Reiser said. “I’ve been working hard to
reach that goal. Now that I’ve made it, it’s a big relief, but it’s also a nice
accomplishment. I can focus on throwing well at state.”
Reiser, who will throw collegiately at Bowling Green, finished as the runnerup to
Liberty-Benton senior Alyssa Gary.
Gary broke the regional record with a throw of 149-8, surpassing the mark of 143-0
set by Bryan’s Tammy Moser in 1990.
Reiser’s best throw came on her last attempt of the finals.
The 16 competitors receive three throws each during the preliminaries. The top nine
distances advance to the finals where the athletes receive three more attempts
to better their distance.
“I finally hit the 140 mark and I haven’t hit that for quite a while, so I’m happy
about my distance,” said Reiser, whose best is 148-7. “I felt good coming in. I
wish it just wouldn’t taken me to the last throw to get there (140-0).”
Reiser is no stranger to Columbus. She watched her sister, Katie, win Division III
state championships in the 100 and the 200 in 2010.
“I’m hoping for a (personal record) and make it on the awards podium at state,”
Reiser said. “There’s always pressure to perform well, but it’ll be a little
easier knowing I made it to state.
“I have to keep pushing myself to get better and hit that (personal record) at state.
Having been there before and having the experience of being down there. I’ll
know what to expect . Hopefully, it will help me relax.”
In the 100, Elmwood freshman Liz Garner was fifth in 12.89 and Lake junior Rebecca
Boos was seventh in 13.16.
Garner’s time was her best of the season, her previous best being 13.01.
Lake’s 800 relay team of Boos, senior Hunter Johnson, junior Ashley Timmons and
sophomore Nicole Pennington was eighth in 63.89.
Otsego senior Kylee Bernthisel placed in two events. She was sixth in the 1,600 in
5:26.82 and and eighth in the 3,200 in 12:17.48.
Bernthisel’s 1,600 time was a personal best, beating her previous mark of 5:27.12.

In the boys meet, Otsego freshman Brandon Avers was eighth in the 1,600 in 4:40.21.

For Lake, junior Zachary Schroeder was sixth in the 200 (22.72); senior Dylan Hirzel
was sixth in the 300 hurdles (41.17); the 400 relay team was eighth in 45.31;

was 14th in the 3,200 (10:59.23).
