BGSU club bowlers earn sectional berth

The Bowling Green State University club bowling teams have earned berths in sectional qualifiers as they
attempt to win a national championship.
The teams were both selected to the Fairview Heights, Ill., sectional, one of four such events in the
country. They will compete March 9-11.
The women’s team ended up ranked 36th in the nation, very impressive for a first-year program which
features seven freshmen on the roster.
The men’s team was ranked 64th in its second full year of competition.
Last weekend, the women’s team led the qualifying portion of a Heartland Conference event, and finished
fifth in the tournament.
The women had a high finish of second place in two tournaments, the Adrian (Mich.) Open and the Racers
Classic in Lima hosted by the University of Northern Ohio. At that tournament, they made their
television debut. The team’s highest finish in a conference tournament was fifth at Cleveland.
Nikki Sims averaged 186 in the conference to make the all-conference team.
The other team members are Brittney Poling, Kayla Miller, Kristina Jones, Elizabeth Freisland, Abby
Batterton and Brandi Roller, a 2011 Eastwood graduate.
Head coach Kevin Taber said all of the women "played big parts throughout the year" in the
quest to secure the sectional bid.
The men’s team had a high finish of seventh in the Racers Classic and just missed the televised finals.

Taber said: "All in all it was a good year for the men. They hung in there tough as a team."

Last year, the team ranked 71st in the nation. It had a goal to get the sectional bid which they
achieved.
The team was led by Ryan Votjush, who averaged 192 for the year. Other team members included Brandon
Lowe, Fred Johnson, Tyler Garwood, Billy Cook, Max Rein, Meric Cerlis and John Przybylski, also a 2011
Eastwood grad.
Both teams will face an interesting challenge at the sectional events, as the format is 64 Baker games.
There will be no individual scores as the Baker-game format features all five team members alternating
frames for one common score.
The top four teams in each sectional will advance to the national championship in Lincoln, Neb.
