LIME CITY – The Perrysburg Township Police Department is offering citizens a chance
to interact with its police force.
Police chief Mark Hetrick announced Wednesday at the township trustees meeting that
the department will be operating a Citizen’s Police Academy.
The program will provide residents an opportunity to learn about the operations of
the department and the duties of a township officer. Participants will also hear
from other county and state agencies the police department partners with in an
effort for crime prevention.
"It’s a great opportunity for the community to interact with our police
department," Trustee Craig LaHote said.
Space is limited and the program will run weekly on Thursdays, beginning April 5 and
ending with graduation on May 31. Classes will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

People under the age of 21 will not be accepted into the academy and a criminal
history check will be conducted on each applicant. Applicants with questionable
criminal records will only be admitted upon written approval from the police
chief. A release of information must be completed by the applicant.
Participants are required to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times
and disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. Failure to comply will lead to
dismissal. Also, participants are not permitted to carry weapons at anytime.
RSVP to Sergeant Mike Munoz at (419) 874-3551 or visit perrysburgtownship.us to
obtain an application. Perrysburg Township and Perrysburg residents will have
preference. Applications will be taken Feb. 13-17.
