Betty Jane Rowley, age 86 of Massillon, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2012,
following a lengthy battle against heart disease.
Betty was born July 29, 1925 to the late Ira and Mary Plant. She married Joseph H.
Weiss in 1944 and he preceded her in death in 1954. She married Lester D. Rowley
on June 11, 1963 and he preceded her in death in 1997.
Surviving are her children: Larry (Fran) Weiss of Bowling Green; Dr. Greg (Janet
Jonas) Weiss of Salem, VA; Linda (Larry) Lautensleger of Massillon; Dr. Gib
(Chris) Rowley of Canton; William (Karen) Rowley of Massillon; Judy Dennis Riley
of Canton; Cindy (Bud-deceased) Blazer of North Canton; and Jennifer (Don)
Jasper of Mt. Clemens, MI. Also surviving are sister, Norma Jean (Robert) Logan
of Canton, special caregiver Mary Jane Gibson, 16 grandchildren, 20
great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Her family was her biggest source of pride and joy. Every family member was so
appreciative of her never-ending love and support. Betty was always there with a
word of encouragement. She was, indeed, a very special lady.
A graduate of Canton Timken High School and Kent State University, she was a teacher
for 25 years in the Plain Local School District and was much loved by her
students. She truly enjoyed her years as a teacher and in helping students learn
and grow.
A woman of great faith, Betty was a very active member of Reedurban Presbyterian
Church for many years, serving as both a Deacon and Elder along with leading
numerous programs and projects. One of her favorite projects was the Christmas
Shoebox program for needy children. Last year the Church renamed the project
"Betty’s Shoeboxes."
Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Reed Funeral Home, Canton Chapel
(705 Raff Rd. S.W.). Funeral services will be Tuesday 11 a.m. at Reedurban
Presbyterian Church, 1145 Perry Drive N.W. Canton, OH, where friends may call
from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens in Canton.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Reedurban
