After watching a 13-point lead evaporate into nothing, the opportunity was there to panic for Bowling
Green’s men’s basketball team Saturday.
Instead of wilting away, the Falcons responded with an 11-1 run in the final two minutes to post a 67-57
victory over Ohio University. It was the Mid-American Conference opener for both teams. The Falcons are
7-7 overall and Ohio is 12-3. PHOTO GALLERY
“The toughness to close
out the game and the nastiness, they had it tonight and we didn’t,” Ohio head coach John Groce said.
It started with Jordon Crawford, who had an assist and four free throws in the final 1:42 of the game to
help the Falcons hold off the Bobcats.
“I felt we persevered. Things were getting tough, and we didn’t back off or fall on our heels,” Crawford
said. “We came together as a team, and we knew that basketball is a game of runs. We knew they were
going to get a run. When they got their run we just had to keep our composure, and we had to step up and
close the game out.”
Crawford connected with Torian Oglesby for a high-flying dunk with 1:42 left to put the Falcons up 58-56.

“The dunk and the alley-oop … I had to go up strong because I knew they were coming. They played on me
the whole game, boxing me out,” Oglesby said.
Oglesby went up with his left hand to complete the dunk.
“That’s what I’m here for. I go out there and do the things I need to do to get the win,” Oglesby said
about his work around the basket.
Oglesby then scored on a tip-off of A’uston Calhoun missed shot with 1:24 remaining.
Crawford made four straight free throws, around one foul shot by Ohio’s Walter Offutt, to push the
Falcons ahead 64-57 with 42.2 seconds left.
Oglesby added one free throw and Dee Brown made two to close things out for the Falcons.
While, BG was converting at the offensive end, Ohio got only Offutt’s free throw on its last six
possessions, The Bobcats missed four 3-pointers in the final 1:05 of the game.
“Defense … that was the difference in the game,” BG head coach Louis Orr said. “We defended the three
and we contained (D.J.) Cooper.”
The Falcons’ 2-3 zone was effective, as Ohio shot only 38.2 percent for the game, including 4-of-20 (20
percent) on threes.
“Against them in the past our zone has been pretty good,” Orr said.
The game was very close at the half with both teams having almost identical statistics. Ohio was up 27-26
at the break.
During the first six minutes of the second half, the game remained close.
The Falcons then went on a 16-5 run to take a 52-39 lead with 7:50 left in the game. Scott Thomas, who
did not score in the first half, hit a 3-pointer and a three-point play in the run, and Crawford got
three straight layups to push BG’s lead to 13 points.
“He always brings a lot of energy. He’s just like me, only shorter, way shorter,” Oglesby said about
Crawford, with a big smile on his face.
Ohio’s Ivo Baltic and D.J. Cooper each scored five points during the Bobcats’ 17-4 run to tie the game at
56.
The Falcons then regained control and closed out the game.
Crawford led four Falcons in double figures with 16 points, along with five assists and two steals.
“Jordan Crawford really gets them into what they’re doing … His speed really stood out,” Groce said.

Brown finished with 13 points, Calhoun added 12 and Thomas finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds. All
but two of Thomas’ rebounds came in the second half. Oglesby finished with nine rebounds, six in the
second half.
“I give our upper classmen credit. They made plays throughout the game,” Orr said.
Oglesby missed a tip-in attempt with 11:12 remaining in the first half to end his streak of 26 straight
made field goals, which is an NCAA record.
NOTES: With Orr as the head coach, the Falcons are now 5-0 at home against Ohio … Thomas was honored
before the game for becoming the 38th player in school history to score 1,000 points … Crawford,
Thomas and Calhoun combined for 30 of BG’s 41 second-half points … BG scored 30 points in the paint,
22 points off turnovers, 14 second-chance points, six fast-break points, and 12 points off the bench …
The Falcons held a 36-28 rebounding edge … BG hosts Akron Wednesday at 7 p.m. for Buck Night as fans
