Kids can explore nature with a hike, story and activity
Join the Bowling Green Parks and Recreation natural resources specialist on
Wednesdays starting next week for the winter/spring session of Young Ones and
Companions at the Wintergarden/St. John’s Nature Preserve.
Other programs are scheduled for Feb. 8, March 14, April 11 and May 9 from 10 to
11:30 a.m. The program is designed for children ages 2 and a half to 5 years old
and includes a story, short nature hike, snack and an activity for that day’s
theme.
The fee for all five programs is $20 for Bowling Green residents, $23 for

WALBRIDGE – Family storytime will be held Tuesday at the library here.
Families with children of all ages are invited to join library staff for stories,
songs and rhymes starting at 11 a.m.

The Andersons stores hold Pinewood Derby clinics
MAUMEE – The Andersons Inc. will hold its fifth annual Pinewood Derby Clinic, open to
all Cub Scouts in the greater Toledo area.
In conjunction with the annul Pinewood Derby, the Andersons invites all Scouts to get
their cars ready to race during a woodworking clinic on Saturday from 9 a.m. to
4 p.m. at all stores.
Scouts may bring their car kit and design to the Andersons hardware department that
day, and professional woodworkers will cut their cars out for them. The
Andersons will also provide a Scout-friendly sanding and finishing station, to
give race cars that winning "edge."
"We had a tremendous response to this event for the past several years, so we
are proud to work with the Scouts again this year," says John Hoover,
director of marketing and new business for the Andersons Retail Group.
"Organizing and hosting events such as this helps The Andersons fulfill its
commitment to support our community. We appreciate the opportunity to help teach
children how to safely use power tools, and to provide a shared learning
experience as the Scouts and their parents work through this project.."
The Andersons Pinewood Derby Clinic is approved by the local Boy Scouts of America
Council. Area Scout troops provide the Pinewood Derby Kits to their Scouts. The
Pinewood Derby has been a part of the Scouting tradition since 1953. The custom
painted cars roll down the tracks throughout the winter months at Pinewood
Derbies across the nation. Awards are presented for the fastest cars and best
designs, and the two fastest cars advance to a district derby. The two fastest
at each district level advance to council finals.
Puppets play out favorite Eric Carle stories in Findlay
FINDLAY – The Arts Partnership invites families to spend an afternoon with "A
Brown Bear, A Moon and A Caterpillar: Treasured Stories by Eric Carle."
This black light puppet show, presented by the Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia, is
scheduled for 3 p.m. Jan. 22, at Central Auditorium. Tickets are on sale now by

This lively presentation, approximately 60 minutes in length, is full of evocative
music, stunning visual effects and innovative puppetry. The performance will
highlight three of Eric Carle’s most beloved tales, "The Very Hungry
Caterpillar," "Brown Bear, Brown Bear," "What Do You
See" and "Papa Please Get The Moon For Me."
Children attending the performance are encouraged to bring ha favorite stuffed
animal.
