Bowling Green’s hockey team is attempting to remain positive despite its five-game losing streak.
The team hasn’t won since a 1-0 victory Oct. 21 at Lake Superior.
The Falcons, 4-5-1 overall, host Canisius (2-3-1) in a non-league series Friday and Saturday in the Ice
Arena.
"We still have to keep our effort and concentrate on those little details in the process that we do
every day in practice, whether it’s battling, whether it’s systems," BG sophomore forward Ryan
Viselli said. "We can’t get down. If you get down, it’s over."
Last weekend’s two losses to Ferris State ended BG’s momentum from its 4-1-1 start and solid play Oct.
28-29 in 3-1, 3-2 losses to fifth-ranked Notre Dame.
BG has struggled to score during the losing streak with just five goals in that span, and it’s made
crucial mistakes at key times. It has allowed 19 goals in those five games.
"We just continue to focus on each day as a new opportunity to be great on that day," BG coach
Chris Bergeron said. "The more we think about the big picture on a day-to-day basis, the more
negative than positive there is.
"I know and we know, as a staff, the big picture is going to be great," Bergeron added.
"We’re moving forward. The plan is working. What does that mean day-to-day? It means we have to
focus on that day and the small picture and not get too caught up in what’s going to happen in two years
or next week. The plan is a long-term plan. It’s a process. These kids are giving us everything they
have."
DESALVO: BG forward Dan DeSalvo, who has three goals and three assists, isn’t expected to play this
weekend because of rib and back injuries suffered last Saturday against Ferris.
"It’s just really tender. He needs rest," Bergeron said.
GALLEY: Wyatt Galley, BG’s No. 2 goalie, remains out (groin). He hasn’t played since BG’s exhibition Oct.
2.
"He’s still weighing his options," Bergeron said. "Do we do rehab and then risk the fact
he might have to have something repaired surgically in four weeks or do we repair it surgically right
now? That’s what he’s going through.
"He wants to get in there and make his mark as a freshman. It’s been frustrating for him."
INJURIES: Bergeron said defenseman Marcus Perrier (leg) and forward Ted Pletsch (knee) are expected to be
available this weekend, while Cam Sinclair (groin) is questionable.
Forward Marc Rodriguez (shoulder) is expected to remain until BG’s series at Bemidji State Dec. 30-31.

DQS: BG forwards Brett Mohler and Bobby Shea will sit out Friday’s game, the result of an automatic
one-game NCAA suspension for fighting against Ferris last Saturday.
FRIEND OR FOE: Canisius has two familiar faces on its coaching staff.
Former BG assistant coach Dave Smith is in his seventh season as the school’s head coach.
Former Falcon defenseman B.J. Adams is in his third season as an assistant coach with the program.
REMATCH: BG visits Canisius next season to complete the home-and-home contract. The series will be played
just after Christmas.
SHOOTOUT: Since the Central Collegiate Hockey Association uses shootouts to break ties in its league
games, BG and Canisius will go to a shootout if either of the games is tied after overtime.
Although a winner is determined in the shootout, the game will count as a tie for both teams under NCAA
rules.
