Prep Football: Northwood clinches tie for TAAC title (10-22-11)

Northwood clinched a tie for the Toledo Area Athletic Conference championship Friday with a 49-9 win over
Ottawa Hills.
The Rangers are 6-0 in the conference and can wrap up the outright title with a win at home next week
against Cardinal Stritch. Edon is second at 5-1, while OH fell to 4-2.
An OH win over Northwood would have created a three-way tie for the TAAC lead.
In the Northern Lakes League, it was: Perrysburg 47, Bowling Green 7; Anthony Wayne 49, Maumee 43, 2OT;
Napoleon 38, Northview 0; and Southview 50, Springfield 29.
In the Northern Buckeye Conference, it was: Lake 37, Otsego 34; Eastwood 82, Woodmore 21; Fostoria 27,
Elmwood 8; and Genoa 62, Rossford 2.
In the Midland Athletic League, North Baltimore defeated Lakota, 30-29.
Northwood 49,
Ottawa Hills 9
In Ottawa Hills, Northwood scored 35 unanswered points in the second half to break open a 14-9 game at
the half.
Nick Russell rushed 14 times for 103 yards and completed 6-of-7 passes for 139 yards for the Rangers, 8-1
overall. He scored on a 48-yard run and threw TD passes of 8 yards to Fletcher Isaacs and 52 yards to
Evan Perkins.
Perkins also scored on an 8-yard run.
The Rangers totaled 478 yards, running for 339 yards. Perkins added 12 carries for 80 yards, while Isaacs
caught three passes for 61 yards.
OH (6-3) totaled 250 yards, but only 65 in the second half.
Fostoria 21, Elmwood 8
In Jerry City, Adonis Cousin completed 20-of-31 passes for 171 yards and three TDs as Fostoria rallied
from an 8-0 deficit in the first quarter.
Elmwood’s TD came on a 22-yard pass from Zach Foster to Mitch Emmitt.
The Royals had 280 yards, but were intercepted three times and lost three fumbles. Luke Garner rushed 17
times for 93 yards for Elmwood.
Fostoria had 211 total yards to improve to 4-5, 4-2. Elmwood is 4-5, 2-4.
Genoa 62, Rossford 12
In Rossford, Kyle Nutter rushed 24 times for 182 yards and five TDs as third-ranked Genoa set up a
showdown with Eastwood for the NBC championship next Friday.
Genoa and Eastwood are each 9-0, 6-0.
Tyler Pickard added nine carries for 57 yards and two TDs for Genoa, which rushed for 296 of its 392
total yards.
Larry Sloan caught two TD passes for Rossford (1-8, 1-5), which passed for 159 of its 161 total yards.
Sloan had seven receptions for 149 yards.
NB 30, Lakota 29
In Kansas, NB stopped Lakota on a conversion run with two seconds remaining to preserve its win.
The Tigers held a 30-17 lead, but Lakota scored two TDs in the final two minutes.
Kody Brewer threw for both of Lakota’s late TDs, passing to Brian Vamos for 38 yards with 1:42 to play
and 18 yards to Edmond Racheter with two seconds to go. Lakota also missed the extra-point kick after
Vamos’ TD.
NB’s Dalton Ishmael rushed 30 times for 246 yards with TD runs of 1, 52, 5, and 26 yards. The Tigers
totaled 318 yards.
Lakota ran for 173 yards and passed for 106. Chris Robbins ran 19 times for 118 yards, including a
25-yard TD run.
NB is 3-6, 1-5. Lakota is 1-8, 0-6.
Southview 50,
Springfield 29
In Holland, Southview clinched the outright NLL title with its win and Maumee’s loss to AW.
The Cougars, 8-1 overall, are 6-0 in the NLL with one game left. Maumee, AW and Perrysburg are 4-2 in the
NLL.
Austin Valdez threw four TD passes for Southview, including scoring tosses of 41 and 70 passes to JQ
Bowers.
AW 49, Maumee 43, 2OT
In Whitehouse, Aaron Dulay’s 20-yard TD run in the second overtime gave AW its win.
Josh Schwerer’s interception ended Maumee’s possession in the second overtime.
Dulay rushed 39 times for 310 yards. He also scored on runs of 56, 4, 40 and 8 yards.
AW is 7-2 in the NLL.
Napoleon 38, Northview 0
In Sylvania, Skyler Anderson had TD runs of 53 and 11 yards for Napoleon (4-5, 2-3).
Northview fell to 3-6, 2-4.
