While it may have been a cold and wet evening outside of the Bowling Green Performing Arts Center Friday
night, virtuosic musical performances, courtesy of the DePue Brothers’ International Fiddle Competition,
kept the audience inside nice and warm.
Opening night featured a well-balanced combination of performances and competition from some of the
country’s most talented fiddlers and musicians.
The night was bookended by performances from the DePue Brothers, the Voices of Harmony Chorus, the a
cappella quartet Four Star, and rousing closing set of instrumental prowess by Bowling green native, and
competition executive director, Alex DePue and Mexican guitarist Miguel De Hoyos.
The selected panel of contest judges, featuring some the fiddle world’s strongest talent, also performed
individual pieces following their introductions.
Front and center was the second round of the competition where eight fiddlers showed off their incredible
skills, each performing three tunes.
Two local musicians, Gina Buzzelli and Grant Flick, are amongst the field that came from as far as
Minnesota, Tennessee, and California to compete for more than $13,000 and prize money.
"I know all of these contestants personally and you are watching them go do what they have been
trained to do since birth and give it everything they got," Alex DePue said. "I feel like
those eight people are some of the best fiddlers we have from coast to coast. They all showed up
here."
The competition continues tonight at 7 pm with the final round of the Open Division, the awards
presentation and the Open Open Division, where contestants are not bound by any rules.
In addition to more high-octane performances from the contestants, the evening will also showcase
performances from the DePue Brothers, Voices of Harmony, Four Star Quartet and the Competition judges.

Tickets are available at the door and are $26.50 for general admission.
