SYLVANIA — There are 48 minutes played in every high school football game.
And in most cases, in order to win, a team must play all 48 minutes with great intensity to come away
victorious.

Bowling
Green played a poor first half against Northern Lakes League opponent Northview, but in the second half
the Bobcats looked like an entirely different team.
The result was a 26-14 victory for BG as its defense forced three second-half turnovers, which all turned
into touchdowns on the ensuing drives.
BG is 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the NLL, while Northview is 2-3, 0-2
“It was mainly an attitude check (at halftime), and we came out fired up right from the
beginning of the second half and we were ready to go,” said BG’s Derek Schroeder.
The three turnovers in the second half were two interceptions and a forced fumble for BG.
Schroeder was responsible for both interceptions, and he also scored all three second-half touchdowns for
the Bobcats on runs of four, three and three yards.
Schroeder, a running back, was most dangerous when he was used in the ‘Bobcat formation,’ where he lined
up as the quarterback. Every play Schroeder ran out of the ‘Bobcat formation’ was a designed run.
He carried the ball 15 times for 101 yards and the three scores.
“Derek Schroeder is an outstanding young man,” BG head coach Steve Aungst said. “He can go on to the next
level and do some great things, but first of all he’s a great man. With that, he’s also a great football
player. We trust him with everything that we do. We line up in our ‘Bobcat formation’, he’s the man that
we want with the ball.”
Northview’s Santos Urbina returned the kickoff to open the second half 70 yards to BG’s 15-yard-line.
Two plays later, the Wildcats’ Brandyn Hall was picked off by Schroeder in the end zone, which set up a
four-play, 80-yard scoring drive for the Bobcats.
The drive was highlighted by a 75-yard catch-and-run from quarterback Andrew Dennis to Michael Sears,
which set up Schroeder’s first score of the night.
Northview’s next pass attempt came on a third-and-14 pass from Hall, which resulted in Schroeder’s second
interception.
“Those guys up front got pressure and made the quarterback throw some errant balls, and I just came up
with them,” Schroeder said.
BG’s defense allowed 217 total yards and nine first downs, five of which came in its first two drives of
the game.
“We’ve been kind of due to have a defensive game like that,” Aungst said. “Last week we had a whole bunch
of missed tackles, we corrected a lot of that on Monday and Tuesday with a tackling circuit. The kids
believe in our system and they don’t panic.”
The Bobcats’ offense also came to life in the second half as well, racking up 229 of its 349 total yards.

Dennis completed 4-of-6 passes in the third and fourth quarters for 117 yards, as he totaled 185 for the
contest.
“That first half we came out flat right away,” Aungst said. “But that second half, that was Bobcat
football, and that’s the way we wanted to be playing right there. I’m really proud of these guys.”
