The pre-football game activities of Bowling Green State University’s Falcon Marching Band have a new home
inside the Stroh Center. The College of Musical Arts and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics
have named the new tradition the Stroh Show.
The pre-game show starts two hours and 45 minutes before kickoff, with the first show starting at 4:15
p.m. Saturday. Jerry Anderson, WTOL newscaster, will host.
Saturday’s "indoor show" will be abbreviated because of a scheduled 5:30 p.m. start of a
volleyball tournament hosted by the BGSU women’s volleyball team.
The band plans to continue its show outdoors.
Along with the marching band, the Stroh Show will feature the BGSU cheerleaders and dance team. Football
coach Dave Clawson and the team will be introduced and provide some before-game comments. After the team
walk, the Falcon Marching Band drumline and twirlers will perform, followed by music from Saturday’s
pregame and halftime shows.
This event follows the long tradition of band festivities, which have been held at the softball field,
Ice Arena, Field House, and most recently outside of Doyt Perry Stadium. This new venue will allow
better accommodations for guests.
"We are excited about adding the Stroh Show to the overall game day experience," said Mary
Ellen Gillespie, associate athletics director for external relations. "The Falcon Marching Band and
the cheerleaders and dance teams play an important role in football game day. This new tradition in a
fantastic new building located right in the corridor of tailgate park will attract fans, enhance game
day atmosphere and will add to the overall fan experience."
The Stroh Show will typically end one hour before kickoff.
Saturday’s halftime show is a patriotic extravaganza in tribute to the 10th anniversary of the 9-11
tragedy. Entitled "I Hear America Singing," it honors the nation’s first responders, police
and firefighters, as well as the men and women of the military. It will be presented in collaboration
with the BGSU Men’s Chorus. The band is under the direction of Dr. Carol Hayward.
