Preston qualifies for U.S. Amateur
Drew Preston, who will begin in his senior season with the Bowling Green men’s golf team this fall, has
qualified for the United States Amateur Championship.
The championship is being held at the Erin Hills Golf Club in Erin, Wis. from Aug. 22-29, 2011.
At the Muskegon Country Club in Muskegon, Mich., Preston shot back-to-back rounds of 71 to finish in a
three-way tie for second place with a composite 142. He trailed the leader by one stroke.
This will be the second appearance at the U.S. Amateur for Preston. Two years ago, Preston shot a 152
(74-78) to place 143rd out of 311 at the Cedar Ridge Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.
The U.S. Amateur, held at the future site of the 2017 United States Open, begins with two rounds of
stroke play. The top 64 golfers then compete in a head-to-head match play tournament to determine the
champion. Each match in the first five rounds consists of 18 holes; the championship match is 36 holes.
