4-H to announce Honor Court
The Wood County 4-H Committee will announce the winners of the 4-H Honor Court Scholarship program on
Monday during the 4-H Style Revue at the fairgrounds. There were 15 4-H members, age 16 or older, who
prepared an application with essay and will be interviewed by a panel of judges Sunday.
Once selected, eight deserving recipients will share in $2,500. This funding is made available through
milkshake barn sales and special donors. Future donations will help this fund grow even larger in years
to come.
Honor Court members will act as 4-H Ambassadors, speaking at functions during the year including special
4-H programs. They may be invited by local clubs for speaking engagements and support for legislative
visits.
Field Crops Day set
On Thursday the Northwest Agricultural Research Station of the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development
Center, 4240 Range Line Road, Custar, will hold the Field Crops Day program. The event runs from 9 to
11:30 a.m.
The program will include "Insect Issues for Late-Planted Crops," by Andy Michel, entomologist;
"The Impact of Late Corn Plantings on Agronomic Performance," by Peter Thomison, horticulture
and crop science; "Water Management and Challenges for Agriculture and Water Resources," by
Larry Brown, Food, Agri and biological engineering; "Getting the Best Coverage and Deposition from
Your Sprayer," by Erdal Ozkan, als food, Agir and Biological Engineering.
All speakers are affiliated with OARDC and OSU Extension. It is free and open to the public.
Vegetable crops night
FREMONT – The Northern Ohio Vegetable Crops Field Night will be Aug. 3, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. It will be
held at the North Central Research Station of the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center,
1165 County Road 43, Fremont.
Topics will include tomato and pepper fungicide trials, tomato varieties for healthy tomato products,
different cell sizes for transplant , IR-4 Projects and new pepper variety trials.
Private and commercial pesticide re-certification and Certified Crop Advisor CEU credits offered.
The event is free and open to the public.
