Livestock Skill-a-thon winners announced

On July 7, there were 430 Junior Fair Youth participants in the livestock skill-a-thon.
The youth were able to compete in eight different animal species, including beef, dairy, goats, horses,
poultry, rabbits, sheep, and swine. Each skill-a-thon quizzed members on their knowledge of the specie
including breeds, parts, medication, feed, and structure.
The skill-a-thon is divided into Senior (14 and over) and Junior (13 and younger) categories. The
skill-a-thon is one of the components of the champion project within each species. The others are
interview judging, judging and showmanship at the fair, and rate of gain for some species. Skill-a-thon
will be formally announced during the Showmanship Sweepstakes contest at the fair on Aug. 7.
