Local students earn tuition assistance through BGSU College of Arts & Sciences

More than 70 students in Bowling Green State University’s College of Arts and Sciences received
scholarships this spring.
The largest award, a tuition waiver, went to Aaron Newquist Weiss, a junior from Park Forest, Ill., and
Brad Woznicki, a junior from Perrysburg.
Skyler Rogers, a senior from Kenton, was the recipient of the largest single award, the Stuart R. Givens
Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $6,000.
Lisa Bergman, a senior from Maria Stein, collected six scholarship awards totaling $8,550.
Students from Wood County who received awards:
Emily Fairbanks, a biochemistry major from Bradner, was awarded the Dr. Elliott Blinn Memorial
Scholarship in the amount of $500. The BGSU senior is a 2007 graduate of Eastwood High School and the
daughter of Ned and Julie Fairbanks.
Electa Baker, a senior majoring in computer science and psychology, was a recipient of the Outstanding
Senior Computer Science Achievement Award in the amount of $500. The Bowling Green resident is a 1993
graduate of Norwalk High School and earned her associate degree from Owens Community College in 2008.

Kathryn Dunn, a junior majoring in biology, was awarded the Dennis R. Whitmore Memorial Scholarship in
the amount of $1,000. She is a 2008 graduate of Otsego High School and the daughter of Charles and
Elaine Dunn, Bowling Green. She is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and the Phi Eta
Sigma Honor Society.
Matthew Fleming, a senior from Bowling Green majoring in geology, was a recipient of the Mancuso Family
Field Studies Scholarship in the amount of $1,350. He is a 2007 graduate of Twinsburg High School and a
member of the BGSU Geology Club.
Alesha Gailhouse, a journalism major, was a recipient of the Florence and Jesse Currier Rising Senior
Scholarship in the amount of $4,000. The BGSU junior is a 2008 graduate of Perrysburg High School and
the daughter of Dan and Carolyn Gailhouse, Bowling Green. She is a member of PRSSA and the Falcon
Forensics Speech and Debate team.
Bowling Green resident Vance Hartke, a sophomore majoring in biology, was awarded the Ralph V. McKinney,
Jr. – Eloise Whitwer Scholarship in the amount of $500. He is a 2009 graduate of St. John’s Jesuit High
School and the son of Ted and Lynn Hartke. He is a volunteer at the Sterling House and an orderly at
Wood County Hospital.
Benjamin Scherer, an incoming freshman majoring in German, was awarded the Dr. Dzidra Shllaku Scholarship
in the amount of $1,000. He is a 2011 graduate of St. John’s Jesuit High School and the son of Mark and
Kimberly Scherer, Bowling Green.
David Stockton, also of Bowling Green and a senior majoring in telecommunications, was awarded the Joseph
Black Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500. He is a 2006 graduate of Van Wert High School and
received an associate degree in broadcast production and engineering from Hocking College in 2008. He is
a production assistant for WBGU-TV.
Robby Baroudi, a freshman from Perrysburg majoring in biology, was a recipient of the Joseph J. and Marie
P. Schedel Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 and the Biology Alumni Sophomore Scholarship in the
amount of $500. He is a 2010 graduate of Perrysburg High School and the son of Hassan Baroudi.
Juliana Cullum, a freshman majoring in marine biology, was a recipient of the Biology Alumni Sophomore
Scholarship in the amount of $500. She is a 2010 graduate of Perrysburg High School and the daughter of
Susan Cullum, Perrysburg. She is a twirler for the BGSU Falcon Marching Band and a member of the Arts
Village Learning Community.
Daniel Gordon, a political science and philosophy major from Perrysburg, was a recipient of the Charles
Alden Barrell Scholarship in the amount of $900. The BGSU junior is a 2008 graduate of Maumee Valley
Country Day School and the son of Therese Gordon, Perrysburg, and Jeffrey Gordon, Bowling Green. He is a
member of Phi Beta Kappa honor society and Phi Kappa Phi and is the president of Pi Sigma Alpha and the
BGSU Chess Club.
Erica Smith, a senior majoring in psychology and Spanish, was awarded the Janet M. Shanklin Memorial
Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. She is a 2007 graduate of Perrysburg High School and the daughter
of Keith and Kathy Smith, Perrysburg. She is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta honor society.
Rebecca Todak, a history major from Perrysburg, was a recipient of the Stuart R. and Florence P. Givens
Senior History Scholarship in the amount of $750. The BGSU senior is a 2008 graduate of Notre Dame
Academy and the daughter of Michael and Patricia Todak. She is a member of the History Society, Phi
Alpha Theta and a volunteer at Fort Meigs State Memorial and Toledo Area Metroparks.
Brad Woznicki, a junior majoring in telecommunications, received a year’s tuition waiver from the Talent
Scholarship WBGU-FM. He is a 2008 graduate of Perrysburg High School and the son of James and Pamela
Woznicki, Perrysburg. He is the High School Sports Director for the Bowling Green Radio Sports
Organization, a sports anchor for BG 24 News and president of the TCOM Student Association.
Portage resident Camille Isaacs, a junior majoring in fine art, was awarded the Ringholz Art Supply 2D
Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. She is a 2008 graduate of Elmwood High School and the daughter of
William Isaacs and Beth Genson.
Elizabeth Ousky, an environmental health and safety major from Walbridge, was awarded the Lubrizol
Scholarship in the amount of $2,000. The BGSU senior is a 2006 graduate of Cardinal Stritch High School
and the daughter of Scott and Diane Ousky.
