Falcon baseball loses
OXFORD — Mac Thoreson pitched a five-hitter to lead Miami to a 1-0 victory Friday over Bowling Green in a
Mid-American Conference baseball game.
He struck out four and walked none.
BG’s Cody Apthorpe also pitched a complete game, allowing five hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
Miami scored the only run in the second inning.
Frank Berry had two hits for BG, which fell three games behind the second-place Redhawks in the MAC East
Division. The Falcons are 15-23 overall and 8-8 in the MAC. Miami is 24-18, 11-5.
The two teams will play a doubleheader Saturday with the first game starting at 1 p.m.
The teams originally scheduled to play single games today and Sunday, but Sunday’s game was moved to
today because rain is in the forecast for Sunday.
Falcon softball loses twice
The Bowling Green pitching staff allowed just one earned run in Friday’s softball doubleheader, but lost
5-1 and 1-0.
BG is 7-31 overall and 1-14 in the Mid-American Conference.
Both games were scoreless heading into the top of the sixth inning and Miami broke the tie in each game
with a single run. The RedHawks posted four more unearned runs in the seventh inning of game one.
In the opener, BG’s Melissa Bott went the distance as all five of Miami’s runs were unearned.
BG’s Andrea Arney hit her third homer of the year, a solo blast, with two outs in the bottom of the
seventh for the Falcons. BG had just two hits.
Game 2 was also a pitcher’s duel as Zada Lines gave up just one Miami hit in the first four innings. But
the RedHawks finally broke through in the sixth.
Hannah Fulk went 3-for-3 with two doubles for the Falcons.
BG tennis wins tourney opener
YPSILANTI, Mich. — Bowling Green’s tennis team beat Toledo, 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the Mid-American
Conference tournament Friday.
The Falcons were to face top-seeded Miami in the semifinals this morning at 10.
BG men’s golf tied for eighth
MAINEVILLE — Kent State leads the nine-team Mid-American Conference men’s golf tournament after two
rounds of play with a 567 total.
Bowling Green’s 625 is tied for eighth at TPC River’s Bend.
BG’s scorers are: Parker Hewit and Chris Melvin, tied for 29th at 156; Charlie Olson, 34th, 158; and Drew
Preston and Wes Gates, tied for 35th, 159.
Falcons set school record
DES MOINES, Iowa — Bowling Green’s 6,400 relay team set a school record at the Drake Relays.
Barbara Powers, from Bowling Green High School, Autumn Dettmann, Carly Wells and Heather Conger ran
20:31.88, breaking the previous record, set in 2005, by just over a half-second. The Falcons finished
ninth in the event.
In the 10,000 BG’s Abby Koch ran a 36:37.33, the best time for the Falcons in the event since 1999.
Owens softball now 30-0
JACKSON, Mich. — Owens Community College’s softball team improved to 30-0 with two 9-1 wins over Jackson
Community College Friday.
In the opener, Owens’ Kristen Roznoski was 2-for-3, with a double and an RBI.
In the second game, Owens’ Alaina Haubert was 4-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI.
BGHS physicals set
Athletic physicals for 2011-2012 for boys and girls high school athletes (in grades 9-12 next year) will
be held Tuesday and Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the rehab Services Building at Wood County Hospital.
The form can be picked up and fee paid at the high school main office during school hours.

ODNR plans free fishing days
COLUMBUS — Ohioans are encouraged to take advantage of “Free Fishing Days” May 7-8.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife, has declared that Ohio anglers may fish
in any of the state’s public waters without having to buy a fishing license.
During the rest of the year, anglers 16 years of age and older are required to have a valid fishing
license to take fish, frogs or turtles from Ohio waters.
An Ohio fishing license is $19 a year for residents.
Tri-City Pony
league name corrected
Billy Van Der Laar had a single and double for Myles Baker Street of the Tri-City Pony League in the
team’s 16-2 win over Perrysburg Gold.
An incorrect spelling was published in Friday’s Sentinel-Tribune.
