Prep Roundup: Elmwood softball out-slugs Gibsonburg (4-30-11)

Elmwood’s softball team pounded out 15 hits in a 9-2 Suburban Lakes League win over Gibsonburg Friday.
The Royals are 11-2 overall and 3-0 in the SLL.
Top hitters for Elmwood were: Brittany George, 3-for-5, double, two RBI; Morgan Arnold, home run;
Stephanie Barringer, 3-for-4, two doubles, two RBI; Regan Yarnell, 3-for-4, double; and Madison Arnold,
2-for-2, RBI.
Marissa Lee pitched a five-hitter, striking out 12 for the Royals.
BGHS 8, Maumee 4
In Maumee, Bowling Green scored three times in the fifth inning and four times in the sixth to improve to
10-5 overall and 6-2 in the Northern Lakes League.
Top hitters for BG were: winning pitcher Casey Akenberger, two singles, double, two RBI; Hayley
Williford, single, double, two RBI; Becca Ruehl, two singles, two RBI; Kelby Kale, two singles; and Kara
Maxey and Shannon Joseph, RBI each.
Rossford 6, Northview 3
In Sylvania, Rossford improved to 8-8 overall and 2-5 in the NLL.
Top hitters for Rossford were: Cassidy Gauthier, 2-for-2, three RBI; Lindsey Skala, 2-for-3; Makayla
McGee, 2-for-2, RBI; and Margo Jackson, double, RBI.
Northwood 3, Toledo Waite 1
In Northwood, the Rangers are 8-4 overall after their non-league win.
Top hitters for Northwood were: Cindy Szyperski, 1-for-3, home run; Allie Burch, 2-for-3, two doubles,
two RBI; and Brianna Crispen, double.
Eastwood 12, Old Fort 0, five innings
Eastwood 5, Old Fort 3
In Luckey, Eastwood swept a non-league doubleheader and is 8-8 overall.
Top hitters for Eastwood in the opener were: Cassidy Rolf, 2-for-2, three RBI; Whitney Foster, home run;
Christine Foster, Hannah Hirzel and Amanda Selhorst, double each,
Eastwood’s top hitters in the second game were: Selhorst, 2-for-3, double; Jessica Young and Ally Gabel,
both 2-for-3; and Saige Smith and Diane Bushman, both 2-for-4.
Christine Foster pitched a two-hitter with five strikeouts and a walk. She pitched a three-hitter in the
second game with six strikeouts and a walk.
BASEBALL
Elmwood 20, Gibsonburg 3, 5 innings
In Gibsonburg, Elmwood scored 12 times in the fifth inning on the way to the mercy-rule SLL victory. The
Royals are 8-4 overall and 2-1 in the SLL.
Top hitters for Elmwood were: Conlan Varty, 4-for-4, three RBI; Jon Bodi, 3-for-3, two doubles, two RBI;
and Jack Waldock, 3-for-4, double, four RBI.
TENNIS
BGHS 4, Maumee 1
Bowling Green won all three singles matches and split the doubles flights to earn the NLL win.
Junior varsity results
BASEBALL
Andrew Herringshaw’s bases-loaded single in the bottom of the seventh scored Keegan Beaverson with the
winning run as Bowling Green beat Maumee, 10-9. Herringshaw was 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI and
Beaverson was 4-for-5 with a triple. Isreal Vento pitched 3 1/3 innings in relief for the win. BG is
11-2 overall and 2-1 in the NLL.
