ROSSFORD – The city has been raking in the grants lately.
On Monday council approved the acceptance of two more grants made possible by federal stimulus money as
well as appropriating the city’s matching share of the projects.
The city received a $210,474 energy efficiency and conservation block grant that will be used to replace
street lighting from the end of the boulevard to the intersection with Eagle Point Road as well as
replacing pedestrian signals and school flashers with more energy efficient models.
The city will pay $23,386 toward the cost of the project.
Council also approved a contract with Mannik & Smith Group to design the street light project.

The city has received another energy efficiency grant for $52,700. That money will be used to replace the
heating and air conditioning systems with more efficient units in the municipal and public works
buildings.
The city will provide a $5,270 match.
Spending just over $5,000 in city money for new heating and air conditioning in the two buildings is
"money extremely well spent," Mayor Bill Verbosky said.
In other business, city council:
¥ Gave a first reading to a donation of weapons to the city by Adam Gwozdz through his attorney Sylvia
Hiris. The donation includes 11 weapons, including hand guns, rifles, shotguns and a BB gun, plus two
wood rifle stocks.
Though the donation states the "weapons have not been used in the commission of a crime,"
Verbosky said the police should take the added precaution of checking all the serial numbers.
Verbosky said he’s been told by police that the weapons could either be used by officers or traded in.

¥ Heard a report for Councilman Chuck Duricek on a meeting held by Penn Gaming officials with neighbors
of the casino now under construction.
Duricek said that there will be major changes in the lanes, intersections and signals in the area between
the I-75 exit and the entrance of the casino. Though the neighbors are Rossford residents, the casino
and roads are in Toledo.
Verbosky said that it now looks like the casino will open in the second quarter of 2012.
¥ Gave first reading to a policy concerning how city employees use information technology, including
Facebook, blogs and Twitter.
