Colleger Scene: Powers named to All-Big Ten first-team (04-29-11)

Caroline Powers, from Bowling Green High School, is a sophomore on the Michigan State University women’s
golf team.
Powers earned first-team All-Big Ten honors, as the Spartans won the conference championship last
weekend.
Powers leads MSU in scoring average and her average of 73.84 is on pace to set the MSU single-season
record. She had the team’s best finish at the Big Ten Championships, taking fourth overall with a 293
total, six strokes behind the winner.
Powers earned medalist honors for the first time in her college career at the Lady Buckeye Invitational
in Columbus. Powers took the individual title with a 54-hole total of 75-72-79-226. MSU, ranked 22nd,
won the title by 17 strokes.
"Caroline is such a talented player," MSU head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll said on
www.msuspartans.com.
"She said afterward she always wanted to win at Ohio State’s course, because that’s where her high
school championships were, but never got the chance to hold up the first-place trophy. After today, she
said it was better than winning it in high school."
Alyssa Shimel, from Eastwood High School, is a freshman on the University of Michigan women’s golf team.

Shimel tied for 14th at the Big Ten Championships, shooting a four-round score of 75-77-76-74-302. The 74
was the best ever by a Michigan freshman at the Big Ten tourney.
Brittany Dunn, from Bowling Green High School, recently completed her senior season with the Oakland
University volleyball team.
Dunn was awarded the Hollie L. Lepley Senior Scholar Athlete Award, which recognizes the top female
athlete at the school for overall excellence in academic and athletic achievement and service
activities.
Justin Welch, from Eastwood High School, is a freshman on the University of Georgia track and field team.

Welch finished third in the hammer at the Florida Relays. He was named the SEC Field Athlete of the Week
following his throw of 214-9.
Welch placed first in the hammer throw in a dual meet against Missouri on April 23. Welch’s throw of
218-8 was 15 feet better than the second-place finisher.
Casey Adamcik, from Perrysburg High School, is a sophomore on the Ohio Northern University track team.

Adamcik ran a personal best of 12:33.0 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, placing fourth at the Adrian
College All-American Invite on April 9.
Brooke Albright, from Eastwood High School, is a sophomore on the Otterbein College softball team.
In 32 games, all starts, Albright is batting .302 with two home runs and 17 runs batted in. Otterbein is
20-12 overall.
Mitchell Auchmuty, from Elmwood High School, is a sophomore on the Capital University men’s track and
field team.
Rachael Clay, from Rossford High School, is a junior on the Miami University track and field team.
Clay finished 11th in the 400 at the Mississippi Open, hosted by Ole Miss. Clay finished 11th in a
season-best time of 56.4.
Brittany Dauterman, from Elmwood High School, is a junior on the University of Findlay softball team.
In 20 games, Dauterman is second on the team with a .375 batting average. She has two home runs and 15
RBI.
As a pitcher, Dauterman is 3-3 with a 4.81 earned-run average in 32 innings pitched with 25 strikeouts.

Ashton Dennen, from Otsego High School, is a junior long sprints/distance runner on the Ohio Northern
track and field team.
Katie Dewyre, from Eastwood High School, is a freshman on the Adrian College softball team.
Dewyre was named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association player of the week on April 11.
In 38 games, 37 starts, Dewyre is batting .330 with a home run and 20 RBI.
Taylor Dimmerling, from Perrysburg High School, is a sophomore on the Eastern Michigan University
baseball team.
Dimmerling has made seven appearances for the Eagles this season and has allowed 10 earned runs in 51â„3
innings pitched. Eastern is 25-15.
Marisa Everitt, from Rossford High School, is a senior on the Oakland University softball team.
In 18 appearances, 14 starts, Everitt is 5-8 with a 2.85 ERA in 86 innings pitched. Oakland is 12-26.
Nathaniel Fitch, from Elmwood High School, is a junior catcher/infielder on the University of Findlay
baseball team.
In 21 games, 18 starts, Fitch is batting .321 with 13 RBI. The Oilers are 11-25-1.
Ben Hammer, from Elmwood High School, is a junior outfielder on the University of Toledo baseball team.

Hammer leads the Rockets with a .361 batting average. In 39 games, 38 starts, Hammer is second on the
team with 18 RBI and has stolen six bases.
Toledo is 20-20 overall and 9-6 in the Mid-American Conference.
Erik Hoops, from Perrysburg High School, is a junior on the Loyola-Chicago men’s golf team.
Hoops tied for 33rd overall at the Horizon League Championship as Loyola finished fifth as a team.
Mark Hotz, from Rossford High School, is a freshman on the Alma University men’s tennis team.
Hotz is 4-3 in singles matches this season.
Andrew Lee, from Elmwood High School, is a sophomore pitcher on the University of Findlay baseball team.

Lee has appeared in seven games, pitching 102â„3 innings and allowing 19 earned runs.
Chris Lemon, a Bowling Green resident, is a senior on the University of Dayton track team.
Lemon finished eighth in the 10,000 at the All-Ohio Championships, finishing in a time of 31:54.6.
Elizabeth Lemon, a Bowling Green resident, is a freshman on the University of Toledo women’s track and
field team.
Matt Lemon, A Bowling Green resident, is a senior on the University of Dayton track team.
He finished 16th at the All-Ohio Championships in the 5,000 (15:26.20).
Robert Marsh, from Elmwood High School, is a senior infielder on the University of Findlay baseball team.

In 35 games, 32 starts, Marsh is batting .250 with a home run and 13 RBI.
Julia Metzger, from Perrysburg High School, is a sophomore on the University of Oregon women’s tennis
team.
Metzger is 8-21 overall in singles matches this season.
Brooke Morgart, from Elmwood High School, is a junior infielder on the Ohio University softball team.
Morgart is 12-for-74 at the plate this season, with six runs scored.
Katie Reiser, from Elmwood High School, is a freshman sprinter on Kent State University track and field
team.
Reiser finished eighth at the Miami (Ohio) Invitational in the 100, finishing in a season-best time of
12.31.
Nick Rodesky, from Bowling Green High School, is a sophomore on the Bluffton baseball team.
Rodesky has made seven appearances for the Beavers, pitching 14 innings and allowing 22 earned runs.
Ryan Rothenbuhler, from Elmwood High School, is a senior pitcher on the University of Findlay baseball
team.
Rothenbuhler has a 5.20 ERA and leads the team with 372â„3 innings pitched.
Reid Rothenbuhler, from Elmwood High School, is a freshman on the University of Findlay baseball team.

Rothenbuhler leads the team with a .359 batting average and 23 RBI. He also has hit a home run, eight
doubles, and three triples.
Clayton Ruch, from Eastwood High School, is a freshman on the Cleveland State University baseball team.

Ruch leads the team with a 3.86 ERA in 21 appearances. In 14 innings pitches, Ruch is 1-1 and has allowed
six earned runs with five strikeouts.
Cody Seifert, from Eastwood High School, is a freshman sprinter on the Kent State University track and
field team.
Jacob Smith, from Lakota High School, is a sophomore hurdler for the Ashland University men’s track and
field team.
Ashland is ranked eighth in the latest NCAA Division II national poll.
Curtis Smithey, from Elmwood High School, is a junior on the University of Findlay men’s track and field
team.
Smithey was part of the Oiler’s eighth-place 1,600 relay team at the Jesse Owens Classic at the Ohio
State University.
Findlay is ranked 22nd in the most recent United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches
Association poll.
Tyler Swartz, from Perrysburg High School, is a sophomore distance runner on the University of Findlay
men’s track and field team.
Christy Titus, from Bowling Green High School, is a senior distance runner on the Boston College women’s
track and field team.
Adam Tyson, from Elmwood High School, is a member of the University of Toledo baseball team.
In 18 appearances, Tyson is 2-3 with a 3.08 ERA. In 261â„3 innings he has 16 strikeouts and 14 walks.
Matt Vannett, from Bowling Green High School, is a member of the Bowling Green State University baseball
team.
Vannett has appeared in 16 games, four starts, and has five RBI for the Falcons.
Cami Wasserman, is a sophomore on the Kent State women’s track and field team.
Courtney Weiss, from Perrysburg High School, is a junior on the Ohio University track and field team.
Weiss finished fourth in the 400 hurdles at the All-Ohio Championships.
Nick Welling, from Bowling Green High School, is a junior on the Defiance College baseball team.
In 19 games, 18 starts, Welling is batting .238 with 12 RBI.
Jared Wolff, from Eastwood High School, is a member of the Tiffin University track and field team.
Wolff throws javelin and shot put for Tiffin.
