PERRYSBURG TOWNSHIP – Owens Community College declared its first-ever Recycled Prom Dress Extravaganza a
complete success.
"We sold 83 dresses before noon, and we sold a total of 110 dresses" in total, said Nicole
Lance, student activities assistant at Owens and advisor of the Raising Awareness Club which hosted the
April event.
The sale ran from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., "however people were waiting to start shopping at 9 a.m.!"
she added.
The Raising Awareness Club is dedicated to raising awareness about an array of issues. There are
currently seven active members who worked together to put on the event to benefit area high school
students who may have a hard time meeting the expenses surrounding attending their school’s prom.
Through the prom dress sale, the club raised $1,232, which will help the group travel to New Orleans to
attend the National Volunteering and Service Conference in early June.
"We will also be volunteering with HandsOn New Orleans to help build a home that was destroyed by
Hurricanes Katrina and Rita," said Lance, a Bowling Green High School graduate.
