The March meeting of the United Women Educators (UWE) was held at the Pemberville Library with some 15
members present. The group heard a presentation about Guatemala from member Kathy Frederick, focusing on
its culture, people, and especially about the mission village where Frederick and her group stayed. She
shared photos, souvenirs, and a power point presentation of her experience.
President Teri Hansen opened the business meeting. She thanked the Membership and Scholarship Committees
for their efforts in helping the group work toward its goals. Six scholarships were awarded to teachers
in the surrounding area and UWE membership has increased by four members since the beginning of the
year.
The current service project is helping residents of the Cocoon Shelter. Cleaning supplies were collected
and President Hansen thanked project chairperson Mary Ann Hoare for her efforts.
Members are asked to complete the annual UWE survey that they receive in April. They may e-mail or send
it through regular mail to Hansen.
The Social Committee of Sue Hess, Anna Reed and Karlyn Thompson served refreshments geared towards a St.
Patrick’s Day theme.
The next meeting is April 20 at 6:30 p.m. at Wolf’s Blooms/Berries on Ohio 105. Each member is encouraged
to bring a fellow educator who may be interested in joining the organization.
PEMBERVILLE – The March 23 meeting was held at the home of Jo Libbe. A variety of goodies was served by
Libbe and Wilma Rolf.
Senior Councilor Eloise Reitzel opened the meeting by reading the story "Buttercup" by Joe
Mazzella.
Nine members answered roll call by giving their favorite mushroom recipe.
Guest Judy Sayen taught everyone how to make flowerpot mushrooms. The group worked on gluing and painting
their mushrooms while Reitzel conducted a short meeting. Everyone’s pot was unique.
