Elmwood picked to win SLL softball title
Elmwood’s softball team was the pick to repeat as Suburban Lakes League champions in voting by the
league’s coaches.
The Royals received all seven first-place votes and a total of 53 points, well ahead of second-place pick
Lake with 38 points.
The complete poll is: 1) Elmwood, 53; 2) Lake, 38; 3) Genoa, 33; 4) Eastwood, 23; 5) Woodmore, 15; 6)
Otsego, 12; 7) Gibsonburg, 11.
Falcon baseball rained out
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Thursday’s Bowling Green Falcon baseball doubleheader against Yale was postponed
because of rain.
Owens women earn All-OCCAC honors
The Owens Community College women’s basketball team had four players earn All-Ohio Community College
Athletic Conference honors.
Michael Llanas was named the OCCAC coach of the year and Jasmine Blanton was named the player of the
year.
Blanton, who was also named to the first-team, was joined by Aja Hall on the second team, and Brittany
Morris and Karrah Windau on the honorable mention list.
Owens finished 27-5 overall and 11-1 in the OCCAC, winning the fifth conference title in school history.

Edwards, Jamerson earn All-OCCAC honors
Owens men’s basketball players Cal Edwards and Jerron Jamerson have earned All-OCCAC honors.
Edwards and Jamerson were both named to the honorable mention list.
The Express finished 10-21 overall and 3-9 in the OCCAC this season.
Owens baseball wins twice
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Owens Community College baseball team is now 7-0 after beating John Wood, 9-1
and Florence Darlington Technical College 12-1 Thursday.
In the first game, Owens’ Shawn Downey pitched a complete game three-hitter. He struck out three and
walked one.
Top hitters for Owens were: Tyler Brown-Lewis, 3-for-3, double, two RBI; Shane Powell, 2-for-3, three
RBI; and Jesse Solomon, 2-for-4, two RBI.
In the second game, the Express run ruled Florence Darlington Technical College 12-1 behind the pitching
of Zak Esposito and the hitting of Joe Sickler, from Bowling Green High School, and Brown-Lewis.
Esposito went five innings and allowed only one hit, one run, and three walks while striking out six. He
became the seventh different Express pitcher to pick up a win this season.
Sickler was 2-for-3 with three runs scored; Brown-Lewis was 2-of-2, two RBI; and Garrett Busch, 1-for-3,
three RBI.
Owens softball rained out
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Owens Community College softball doubleheader scheduled for Thursday was rained
out.
BG Rifle Club competes
The Bowling Green Rifle Club lost to visiting Meeker, 1,433-1,385 on Tuesday.
Scores for BG (3-13) were: Norbert Norden, 290; Richard Dittman, 283; Bob Schwiebert, 280; Mike Sayen,
267; and Jerry Milnor, 265.
