Hills earns national honor
Former Bowling Green Falcon assistant coach Brian Hills is the winner of the Terry Flanagan Award from
the American Hockey Coaches Association.
The award, in honor of the late BG assistant coach, honors an assistant coach’s career body of work.
Hills is in his sixth season as an assistant at the Rochester (N.Y.) Institute of Technology. He was an
assistant at BG from 1994-2001.
RIT advanced to the NCAA Frozen Four and won the Atlantic Hockey Championship in 2010. The Tigers are
91-48-11 with three regular-season league titles since the start of the 2006-07 season.
This season, RIT is 13-8-5 and is first in its league with a 12-3-4 record.
RIT’s head coach is former BG defenseman and assistant coach Wayne Wilson.
The award will be presented during the national coaches convention in Naples, Fla. in late April.
Blake joins NHL front office
Former Bowling Green Falcon defenseman Rob Blake has joined the NHL’s hockey operations department as a
manager, the league has announced.
Blake will work with senior executive vice-president of hockey operations Colin Campbell and his staff on
all aspects of the game.He will work closely with hockey executives on the club level and be involved
with the competition committee and the NHL’s summer research and development camp.
Blake, one of the best defensemen ever to play in the NHL retired in July after a 20-year career with the
Los Angeles Kings, Colorado Avalanche and San Jose Sharks.
He played at BG from 1987-90 and was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award in 1990. The Hobey is presented
annually to the most outstanding player in college hockey.
Toledo downs Falcon swimmers
TOLEDO — Toledo defeated Bowling Green, 195-80 in a Mid-American Conference dual meet Friday. BG is 3-3
overall and 1-3 in the MAC.
BG’s Alexa Harris won the 100 backstroke (58.36 seconds). She was also second in the 200 backstroke less
than one second behind the winner.
Bowling Green’s other victory came in the 200 yard freestyle relay. Brittany Szekely, Carrie Enright,
Emily Bennet and Sarah Reinink won in 1:36.44.
The Falcons had a total of seven second-place efforts.
BG tennis downs Cleveland State
PERRYSBURG — Bowling Green defeated Cleveland State, 7-0, in a non-league tennis match Friday.
The Falcons swept the three doubles matches and then won four of the six singles contests in straight
sets to earn the win.
