The Northern Lakes League standings could have been utilized to forecast the outcome of the Bowling
Green-Rossford game.
BG, behind a thoroughly dominant 85-44 win, increased its NLL record to 9-0, while the Bulldogs sank to
1-9. Overall, the Bobcats stand 12-2 while Rossford fell to 3-11. PHOTO GALLERY

Yet, a loss to the Bulldogs last year provided added focus to BG’s preparation this time around.
“We couldn’t let that happen again,” said BG coach Von Graffin, whose team poured in 55 percent
(31-of-56) of its field goals on the night. “We overcame some of the pushing and shoving and did what we
wanted to do and got it done, both at the offensive and defensive end.”
“We lost to them last year the second time because we took them lightly,” said BG senior Chauncey Orr,
who became the school’s all-time leading scorer with a 19-point performance. “We approached them like we
approach everyone, jut like we’d approach Perrysburg. We told ourselves no matter who it is, we can’t
stub our toe.”
There was no toe stubbing on this night as BG jumped out to an 11-0 lead before Rossford senior guard
Josh Perry, who led all scorers with 24 points, hit a 10-footer with 3:06 left in the first quarter.
Perry’s second field goal of the quarter with 24 seconds left closed the BG gap to 16-4. But BG guard
Tyler Dunn knocked down a trey sending BG to a 19-4 first-quarter lead. Rossford was 2-of-17 from the
field in the first quarter.
“We left Josh Perry open a couple of times and he knocks them down,” said Graffin. “He’s a nice offensive
player.”
Orr had six first-quarter points, while sophomore center Vitto Brown and Max Beattie added four apiece.
Vitto Brown’s five blocked shots in the opening quarter, 10 for the game, also set the tone for BG.
“We approached (the game) to play defense,” Orr said. BG held Rossford to a paltry 30 percent (16-of-49)
from the field.
The Bobcats, behind six second-quarter points each from Dunn and Xavier Brown, responded to Rossford’s
aggressive play by burying 11-of-14 free throws in the quarter. BG was up 26-6 at the 5:34 mark and saw
that lead increase to 42-15 on two free throws by Kurt Fairchild with 1:25 remaining in the half. BG
went to the break up 44-17.
A 31-point BG third quarter, the result of a sizzling 14-of-19 from the field, had the Bobcats take a
75-30 lead into the final quarter on a stick-back by Alex Augsburger (10 points and five rebounds).
Xavier Brown, who with Orr, led the Bobcats with 19 points each, tallied 11 third-quarter points with
Orr adding nine including his record breaking basket on a stick-back with 2:33 to go.
“What speaks volumes about Chauncey Orr is that he has 10 points, trying to get to 18 tonight, and he has
a fast break basket and he drops it off to Andrew Herringshaw (late in the second quarter),” said
Graffin. “That speaks volumes about the young man. First and foremost, he’s a teammate.”
The BG starters spent the final 10 minutes on the bench enjoying the romp. For the game, BG committed
just five turnovers while the Bulldogs had 13 miscues. The Bobcats won the boards, 33-22 as Vitto Brown
grabbed eight and Orr hauled in seven caroms.
The BG junior varsity team claimed a 51-38 win over Rossford. Evan Gardner and Herringshaw paced the
Bobcats with 16 and 14 points respectively. The Bulldogs were led by Evan Thompson’s 11 points.
