Leroy A. Ward

Leroy
Allen Ward, age 93, of Bowling Green, Ohio, formerly of Wayne, Ohio,
passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday
(January 19, 2011) at Bowling Green Manor Nursing Home.
He
was born on November 30, 1917 in Prairie Depot, Ohio, to the late
Dorsey A. and Leah A. (Hartman) Ward. He married Helen Ione Meek on
October 13, 1940 in Dayton, Ohio.
Surviving
are his loving wife of 70 years, Ione; son, Thomas A. (Cheryl) Ward of
Wayne; daughters, Janet L. (Dan) Carpenter of Bowling Green, Judy L.
(Doug Rojewski) Blausey of Pemberville; brother, Warren "Ray" (Belle)
Ward of Cottonwood, Arizona; sisters, Donna (Calvin) Aurand of Wayne,
Eileen "Dutch" (Seth) Davis of Portage; 8 grandchildren and 17
great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn "Bud" Ward & Harold Ward.
Leroy was a farmer, carpenter and had retired from Modine in Pemberville.
He
was a member of Wayne Church of Christ, where he served as elder,
Sunday school superintendant and board of trustees. He was a member of
the former Wayne American Legion and former Wayne Lion’s Club. He also
was a member of the Farm Bureau Council and Wood County Election Board.
Leroy was a 1935 Graduate of Montgomery Township High School and served his country proudly during W.W.
II in the Army.
Friends
will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday (January 23, 2011) at Barndt
Funeral Home in Wayne and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday (January 24, 2011)
at the Wayne Church of Christ, where a celebration of life service will
start at 11 a.m., with Pastor John Amstutz officiating. Burial will be
in Graham Cemetery, with military honors performed by the Albert Bowe
American Legion Post #338 of Bradner. A bereavement luncheon will follow
the service at the cemetery back at the church.
Memorial donations may be made to the Church, Wayne Volunteer Fire Department or Hospice of Northwest
Ohio.
