Annexations approved in two areas

With no complaints from the shrinking townships, annexation petitions to two communities were approved
Tuesday by the Wood County Commissioners. The city of Perrysburg is set to grow by 254 acres, and North
Baltimore will expand by three acres.
The Perrysburg annexation involved property at the southeast corner of Hull Prairie and Roachton roads,
in Middleton Township on the southwest edge of the city. The property is currently undeveloped, but
annexation will make way for the property to be used for residential sites, according to Don Feller, of
Feller, Finch & Associates Inc., who represented the landowners in the annexation process.
"The intent is someday to develop it," Feller said after the annexation hearing. And in order
for the site to get utilities from the city of Perrysburg, the annexation petition was required, he
added.
The property is owned by Jeremiah Howald and Mark Rich.
The type of housing subdivision planned, or its density have not yet been determined.
"I don’t think they’ve really thought that far ahead," Feller said.
The acreage to be annexed is just east of the existing Saddlebrook and Hull Prairie Meadows housing
subdivisions. Those developments remain in Middleton Township and are not required to annex since they
receive utilities through the Northwestern Water and Sewer District, Feller explained.
The North Baltimore annexation involved three acres on Poe Road, located south of the Capital Plastics
plant and north of the Great Scot grocery store, in Henry Township. The acreage, owned by Howard and
Deana Hotaling, is presently farmed. The couple, who have worked as foster parents for years, are
planning to operate a child care center on the property.
"We’re excited about it," Deana Hotaling told the county commissioners on Tuesday.
Plans are to have the facility open by the end of May or beginning of June.
This annexation was done in an "expedited" manner since the property is located in a
Cooperative Economic Development Area, agreed to by the village of North Baltimore and Henry Township
officials. The area allows annexations to occur more quickly since the village has already agreed to
provide services to the site, tax revenue sharing has been set up between the two entities, and the
township has agreed to not contest the request.
