James Lofton, 33, of Weston, was sentenced on Tuesday for receiving stolen property for his involvement
with the theft of shopping carts from Kroger on North Main Street in Bowling Green.
On Sept. 20, a deputy from the Wood County Sheriff’s department responded to E&M Recycling, 12705
S. Dixie Hwy., for a complaint of Lofton, along with Daniel Stump and Miles McCullough, scrapping
shopping carts.
It was reported the 20 carts on that day were the third load dropped off by Lofton and/or his associates.

Stump, age 30, also of Weston, was arrested with Lofton and both were charged.
Stump’s case was dismissed in Bowling Green Municipal Court with the defendant paying court costs.
McCullough was not charged.
Common Pleas Court Judge Robert Pollex sentenced Lofton to 150 days in the Wood County jail with credit
given for time served. He was also placed on community control sanctions for three years including
intensive supervised probation. The judge ordered him to be evaluated at Behavioral Connections for
mental health counseling.
He must also perform 150 hours of community service.
He was ordered to have no contact with Stump nor McCullough.
Restitution to Kroger was ordered for $3,400, the cost for 40 carts priced at $85 each.
