Walbridge budget manageable for year

WALBRIDGE – By tweaking the budget here and there, the village will continue to remain in decent
financial shape for 2011.
Walbridge Council approved the budget at Wednesday’s meeting, which was the first of the year, and
listened to Mayor Dan Wilczynski’s state of the village address.
For 2011, the village is expected to spend $1.21 million and revenue will be $1.25 million. Last year,
Walbridge spend $1.27 million and income was $1.31 million.
Budget highlights for this year include the salary of a full-time police chief, who is expected to be
hired in the next few weeks, operating money for the pool and no raises.
Employees, though, did receive money from a $4,200 bonus pool at the last meeting. Those are noted later
in this story.
Wilczynski said the police budget is close to last year’s, even with the addition of a full-time chief.
The current chief is part time.
The mayor said the new full-time chief will spend half of his time – and salary – on the road. The patrol
time was already in the budget.
Savings for the year include 3 percent for Bureau of Worker’s Compensation costs and $15,000 in
dispatching.
The budget calls for hiring a fourth streets worker. But, in order to run the pool this summer, he or she
won’t be hired until July.
Council plans to spend $75,000 for street and curb reconditioning this year.
Bonuses given to employees were: $1,000 to Patricia Crawford and Pamela Klotz; $500 to Brian Amer, Brent
Boulerisse and Walt Tylicki; $100 to Megan Anello, Jason Harden, Curtis Schober and Matthew Simon; and
$50 to Steve Boldt, Delores Bleau, Joyce Eikost, Kenneth Hetrick, Patrick Kwiatkowski and Christopher
Rutledge.
