Former Gibsonburg resident, William P. Nietz, 88, died of natural causes Sunday morning, January 2, 2001
at home in Bristol, Indiana.
Bill was born in Wood County, Ohio, on June 19, 1922 to William H. and Amelia (Puse) Nietz. He married
Rose Mary Powers on May 18, 1951.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, his daughter, Patricia (Chris) Habegger, and two grandchildren,
Stephen and Beth Habegger.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul, and two sisters, Dorothy Nietz Hall and Jessie Nietz Hunt.

Bill served with the Army Air Corps in WWII as a gunnery instructor from 1942 to 1946. He belonged to
Welker Smith American Legion post, Gibsonburg, OH.
He worked for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad for 42 years, first as a switchman, then as a yardmaster,
and retired in 1983.
He was a 32nd degree Mason and was involved with the Lakeland Conservation Club for 50 years.
Interests included hunting and skeet and trap shooting, and he enjoyed an avocation as a gunsmith for 50
years.
Bill leaves a legacy of great love for his family, a wonderful sense of humor, and a long list of dear
friends.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, January 5, 10:30 a.m. at Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home &
Cremation Services, 319 West Madison St., Gibsonburg, OH. Rev. Betty Wineland will officiate.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 4, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and for one hour
prior to the funeral on Wednesday.
Interment will follow at Fort Meigs Cemetery, Perrysburg, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Center for Hospice and
Palliative Care of Northern Indiana.
