Sterling House to expand

Three expansions totaling about 30,000 square feet are planned for the Sterling House at 121 N.
Wintergarden Road.
Drawings detailing the plans for the expansion and seeking a zoning permit were filed Thursday with the
Bowling Green Planning Office. No time line was announced for construction.
The project does not need zoning changes and thus does not require any reviews by the Planning
Commission. Various city departments will be checking the plans to make sure all requirements are met,
which is standard procedure.
Plans show a one-story 11,860 square-foot addition to Sterling House, a second one-story 17,463
square-foot structure for dementia and Alzheimer’s patients, and a 1,905 square-foot addition to the
kitchen area of the existing structure. At least two existing housing units are scheduled for
remodeling. The two large additions are on the west side of the existing building The kitchen addition
is on the southeast corner of the existing building.
Sterling House is owned by Alterra Healthcare Group, based in Brentwood, Tenn.
The dementia and Alzheimer’s unit will carry Alterra’s "Clare Bridge" designation. The
company’s website indicates the Clare Bridge concept has been developed for more than 25 years to
provide residents with "daily moments of success." Many Alterra locations already have Clare
Bridge units.
The plans were prepared by Planning Design Construction in Heartland, Wis. The firm designed a
similar-sized Clare Bridge unit that was constructed in Greenville in southwest Ohio in 2009.
