Eastwood board commends teachers for $10G energy grant

PEMBERVILLE – Four Eastwood School District teachers were recognized by their school board for receiving
$10,000 in grant money to study energy projects.
Mary Selzer, Beth Braucksieck, Bethany Cox and Barb Stough were commended at the Nov. 16 board of
education meeting. They received the grant from BP Energy.
They are using the money for several different projects, including studying energy sources, growing in
greenhouses and making movies.
This year, BP America awarded over $16 million in grants and scholarships to teachers in U.S. schools
through the A+ for Energy program.
The board also:
¥ Decided it would visit all of the Eastwood schools Dec. 8 starting at the high school. A January work
session will be scheduled next month.
¥ Approved a one-year service agreement with Dunbar Mechanical Inc., Toledo, starting Sept. 1 for the
district’s calibrations and preventative maintenance in mechanical systems. It costs $9,401.
¥ Accepted a quotation from GLA Water Management Co., Hiram, for the 2009-10 school year. The new company
will save the district $2,500 annually. It handles the chemicals for the boilers. The district will
spend approximately $1,800.
¥ Joined the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments for 2010 for $179.
¥ Approved the high school National Honor Society trip request to travel to Nashville, Tenn., March
11-14.
