OMAHA, Neb. — Nebraska-Omaha scored the first two goals Saturday en route to a 3-1 victory over Bowling
Green in a Central Collegiate Hockey Association game.
Rich Purslow had two goals and Eddie Del Grosso added one goal and one assist, while Jeremie Dupont made
15 saves.
UNO held a 33-16 edge in shots on goal. BG’s Andrew Hammond played well with 30 saves, 22 coming during
the final two periods.
BG fell to 0-5-1 overall and 0-1-1-1 in the CCHA after it was allowed by the league to keep Friday’s 4-3
shootout victory (an update on the shootout win appears on page xx).
UNO is 4-0-2, 1-0-1-0.
“We’re going to have growing pains, playing as many young guys as we are,” said BG coach Dennis Williams,
who team has 10 freshmen and four sophomores. “We have to keep teaching and make sure we get better and
make progress every week.”
Purslow’s power-play goal opened the scoring with just 1:44 left in the first period, while Del Grosso
made it 2-0 with only 25 seconds to play in the second period.
BG closed to within 2-1 on Jordan Samuel-Thomas’ second goal of the series at 1:51 of the third period,
but Purslow restored the two-goal margin just 32 seconds later.
“The second and third goals were heartbreakers, but we battled hard for 60 minutes,” Williams said. “I
was real proud of their effort.”
The Falcons were hurt by penalties as they had to kill four penalties in the first period and two in the
second.
UNO won the special teams as its power play was 1-of-6, compared to BG’s 0-of-3.
