Falcon women earn AP votes
The Associated Press released the first women’s basketball poll of the 2009-10 season on Friday, and the
Falcons received eight votes, good for 43rd overall.
The complete poll is on page xx today.
BGSU volleyball wins
BUFFALO — Bowling Green’s volleyball team improved to 10-15 overall and 3-8 in the Mid-American
Conference with a 25-18, 25-19, 27-25 win over Buffalo Friday.
BG’s leaders were: Shari Luther, 11 kills, two aces; Noelle Spitler, 12 kills, five block assists;
Allison Kearney, 39 assists, 13 digs; and Alex Zlabis, 19 digs, two aces.
Briggs activated by 49ers
SAN FRANCISCO — Diyral Briggs, a former Bowling Green Falcons, has been activated to the active roster by
the San Francisco 49ers.
Briggs is a rookie linebacker who was signed as an undrafted free agent.
Soccer players honored for academics
Two Bowling Green men’s soccer players and two Falcon women’s soccer players have been named to the ESPN
The Magazine Academic All-District IV University Division Team.
Senior co-captains Jacob Lawrence and Hunter Van Houten each earned first-team honors.
Lawrence earned the award for the second time in his BG career, having also been named to the first team
in 2008. Van Houten earns academic all-district accolades for the first time.
Lawrence maintains a 3.93 cumulative grade point average as an interpersonal communications major. Van
Houten, a health science major, has a 3.95 cumulative GPA in his BG career to date.
Juniors Alicia Almond and Katie Stephenson each earned third-team honors.
Stephenson makes the team for the second consecutive year, having been named to the second team in 2008.
Stephenson, a finance major, has a 3.94 cumulative grade-point-average. Almond maintains a 3.95
cumulative grade point average as a health science major.
The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District University Division Team is made up of student-athletes from
Division I schools in the states of Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To be nominated, a
student-athlete must hold at least sophomore status, be a starter or key reserve, and carry a cumulative
GPA of 3.30 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information
Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district.
Badenhop Challenge reaches goal
The Burke Badenhop Challenge has reached its goal of seeing 100 young alumni becoming Falcon Club members
at Bowling Green State University. Badenhop is a Perrysburg High School and BGSU graduate currently
pitching with the Florida Marlins.
As of Oct. 23, there were 112 young alumni contributing to the challenge, with over 25 percent of those
being former athletes.
Badenhop encouraged young alumni to make a $25 contribution to the Falcon Club and he would match the
amount.
