Members of the Bowling Green Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) met Sept. 19
at the BG Country Club. The brunch, attended by more than 45 members and guests, was the first event for
the membership year for the organization.
Branch President Deborah Wooldridge encouraged members to get involved in local events and issues, which
focus on equity for all. She also encouraged members to mentor others.
Keynote speakers were Dr. Janet Parks, BGSU professor emeriti and Diane Regan, AAUW Ohio state officer.
Regan encouraged the membership to continue working for women’s equality. Parks and Regan gave a
presentation on Title IX: Implications for Women in Sport and Education." The presentation recalled
the past and focused on what still needs to be done. The DVD set can be found at www.wbgu.org/
Genevieve Simon and Leela Singh updated members on the Creativity Counts – Let’s Read Math Project that
was co-sponsored by BG Zonta, Wood County Library and BG AAUW from a generous BG Community Foundation
grant. They averaged 40 children participating in the summer project encouraging young children to
embrace math. Simon and Singh were both participants in Be Wise Camp.
A generous donation from artist Nancy Leetch was on display. Raffle tickets are sold and the proceeds go
toward the Be Wise Camp. The winner of the watercolor painting will be announced at the April meeting.

The Branch is currently raising funds for the Educational Foundation and Legal Advocacy Fund. They also
provide two scholarships for local seventh and eighth grade girls to attend Be Wise each summer, a camp
focused on teaching girls the value of math and science. Scholarships are also awarded each year to
assist non-traditional female students at BGSU.
AAUW-Bowling Green is sponsoring an Elder-Beerman Community Days fund-raiser to benefit local
scholarships on Nov. 14.
