Perrysburg Twp. delays console purchase

PERRYSBURG – The township will have to wait a little longer to replace its police dispatch console that
was zapped last month by a lightning strike.
Administrator John Hrosko said Tuesday that the police department was in the process of putting together
fact sheets prior to soliciting bids for a replacement console, which coordinates communications between
dispatch and units in the field.
As a result of the July 14 lightning strike, the township lost a radio signal-boosting device, air
conditioning units within the new communication building on Lime City Road, computers that operate
automatic door locks as well as an entire dispatch panel.
Police Chief Ed Stribrny said the department continues to use its temporary radio setup until a console
can be obtained. He said the arrangement presents more of an "inconvenience" for the
department and that there has been no change in service since the storm.
"If there’s any problem with that issue, we’ve always got the cell phones" for backup, he said.

The township tentatively approved a console purchase at its Aug. 17 meeting from Vasu Communications,
based in Avon, at a cost of $60,824 pending a review of the emergency purchasing process. Ultimately,
the measure could not be passed through an emergency because the cost exceeded the $25,000 threshold for
making a purchase without advertising for bids.
"It will do everything (as) our console that we had and more," Stribrny said at the time.
Officials believe the communications tower was not struck during the storm.
