BG Senior Citizens Club

The club took a day trip to Ohio Amish Country, through Wayne and Holmes counties, on July 21.
Those making the trip were Jean Van Streader, Donna Hiser, Margaret Davis, Elinore Sheperd and June Van
Vorhis.
The club is partially supported by the Bowling Green Department of Parks and Recreation. Their van driver
was Dan Rodesky, retired director of the parks department, who was involved with the BG senior club from
1974 to 1988, and since then as a member and volunteer.
The club traveled through the back country and observed the working methods of the Amish. They stopped at
the Pine Tree Barn, south of Wooster, and then traveled through Millersburg enroute to Charm, Ohio, for
lunch at the Guggisberg Restaurant. There they also visited a cheese-making factory and gift shop.
Next stop was Farmerstown, where wicker furniture is made, and then the Swiss Village Bulk Store in
Sugarcreek, where they purchased some goods.
The group had hand-dipped ice cream near Walnut Creek, then returned home by way of Mohican State Park
Forest and Clear Fork Reservoir, which supplies the city of Mansfield with fresh water.
The club, which usually takes several day trips a year, currently welcomes new members. Anyone interested
should contact Van Streader at (419) 352-7451 or attend one of the meetings, held on the first Thursday
of the month at approximately 1 p.m. in the basement of the Wood County Senior Center at 305 N. Main
St., next to the library.
